Default I'm new to the forum and have some question

hey guys I'm to the forum but no rc I recently found rccrawler.com and wanted to start into rc crawling because i'm getting kind of tired of the mess thta my nitro truck make. so today I ordered a wheely king chassis and center gear box, so that I can start my crawler build. And I wanted to know how the wheely king crawl when converted to the crawler and what motor and speed control works the best. also do i need four wheel steering right off the bat or can I start out crawling without it and then add it to the truck later on. any help you can give me on my whely king crawler would be greatly appreicated. thanks.

welcome to rc crawling read the stickies at the top of the forum. they will show you what you need to convert a wheely king into a crawler. the best thing to do is just research on here and find out what you need. just have fun with it.

well I went and got the tubing and the allthread needed to make the links for the wk crawler. today so I cam make them tomorrow and the I will just have to order the link ends for the links and them I can paint them and they will be done the chassis and the center gear box halfs should be here next week sometime. and then I can order the gears for the tranny. and possibly the front and rear axles. I think it will be cool when I get it done and can take it out and test it out.

I would not reccommend 4 wheel steering on the wheely king. Of course its cool and functional, but there is no need. The money you would put in to buying another servo, you could use elsewhere. The WK is a great start no doubt. I would reccommend a tekin rebel 2 and a axiom motor(45-65t would be perfect) to get you started. I really like the towerpro 945 servos. Plenty of power for a great price!

You picked a good start with the wheely king

sweet guys thanks for your help. I got my wk chassis today and the tranny case and I ordered all the gears to complete the transmission. then after the tranny is done I will start on the axles.and I have aready made the links. So it should be fun to build. but the truck only weighs 4.4 pounds should I make it heavier for crawling? and I will get some pics of my chassis when I get a chance.

If you do add any more weight...it needs to be low. Put some lead weights inside the tires around the wheels and it'll stay planted better and give better traction.

offroader5, thanks for the tip about the weights in the wheels I work at a tire store so getting the stick on weights won't be hard how many ounces do I need to put in each wheel?

That all depends on your driving, the truck, and the terrain. Everyone runs something different. With the Axial wheels I ran a whole strip around the inside of the wheel plus two more squares...so I ended up with 3.5 oz in each. With the Erickson aluminum wheels I am running now, I didn't add any weight...they don't need it, they are heavy enough

I will probably be running the axial beadlock wheels on my wk so maybe I will have to wait till I get a rolling chassis built and the wheels on the truck. thanks
