Default Updated my WK crawler a lil bit...

I clocked the tranny even more(thanks for the idea whoever you were, DaveFL maybe?), put the 3 cell lipo on the front axle, moved the esc up front under the hood area, used shorter shocks in the rear to cut out a lil articulation, removed the aluminum tranny mount/skid plate and made one outta brake line and cuttin board. Also added front dig with no brake. Lets call it SEMI-DIG. It works pretty good. I made it shift to the rear so I could add teeth to that side of the shaft so it would lock and really dig later. We'll see.

LIPO on axle. I have it protected with tin and rubber so I wont get a puncture.

It is just a piece of 1/16 aluminum bent in an L shape. One screw is in the hole by the threelink mount and one screw is on the screw where the knuckle mounts to the axle. I am puttin one more screw where the screws go thru the chunk. it holds good. Just a lil flex, but that helps me save servo gears.

I am glad you didnt ask for a pic of the rear servo mount for the dig. It is really rigged up.

BTW, I tested the dig mechanism in as many angles and positions as I could hit on my rocks in the garage. Works good.

well, I messed up and took the Crawler to the race track Saturday. I didnt get to drive it for more than 2 minutes. I had no less than 10 different people wheeling it, and at least 20 wanting to know where/how to get one. I guess It distracted the other drivers cause I took the pole in 1/8 scale(we run truggy and buggy together, I have a jammin crt) and won the main. I had everyone from 10yr olds to 50 yr olds drivin it. We only have two hobby grade crawlers that I know of in our lil town. It was a big hit. I am hoping the interest was good enough to get these racers to slow down and crawl a little. After all, it looked like they were crawling during the race anyways. 2nd place was 1.5 laps back and 3rd was 2laps back.:-P

The dig missed going into 4wd smoothly twice while a younger kid was driving but after some linkage adjustment it has yet to fail again.

nice lookin tuber! say, would you mind going into your 'semi-dig' setup a little more, both photographically and with an explanation. i'm trying to get a rear dig set up on my w.k. based crawler. i've got it pretty figured out, but right now it doesn't lock, and i would like to figure out how to get it to do so. you mentioned teeth? could you elaborate on that point. thanks-

da chimp

From what I can see, his semi dig set up works pretty much the same as the one kreepy posted. The reason he calls it SEMI dig is because there is no system to lock the rear tires, they just free wheel when you disengage the rear driveshaft. A true dig system will disengage the rear axle and lock the rear tires for a tighter turn. SACCO, correct me if I'm wrong. Here is a good link to some ideas on how to make the rear tires lock...Socket to Ya, Front Dig

BTW, your rig is looking great SACCO!

I think I can take a piece of female shaft ~3/8" and make it have teeth. I would attach it to the rear portion of the male shaft with the teeth facing the female slider. Then, on that side of the female shaft, have corresponding teeth that would mesh into the piece i put on the male lower shaft end. think of the servo savers used on bellcrank setups. It wouldnt take much to lock the rear. I have my linkage action working good. Right on the switch engages 4wd, center is 2wd no rear lock, and Left on the switch is gonna be 2wd LOCKED. Give me a couple days to get it done. I had a test today(college) and have another wednesday so I wont have much time for the crawler. I will try to get it done soon though.

BTW, there is a link to a very small vid up there with the pics if you need more eye time

The latest rccaraction also has almost this exact setup. I just used what I had on hand. I have made trucks have 2wd/4wd selectable this way before, but never in a crawler and never new it was called "dig." I am new to crawlers but not RC. I have 19yrs experience all together.
