Question Shock Oil Substitutes??

I just ordered the TMaxx blue threaded shcoks and like a dumb arse, I didnt order shock oil , not sure why... anyway there is no LHS near me (2hrs away) and I have some 30 wt motor oil that i used previously in my stock WK Shocks. Wouls this be a good substitute? Would it hurt anything to run it? or if it is not a good sub, what would be? Thanks for the info!

Id try some other oils that like veg oil or canola oil. Ive even run baby oil in a pinch and the shocks smell nice too! run the lightest oil you can find

I hate it when I order something and forget one thing. I hate paying shipping. There is a guy here in town that uses motor oil although I havent tried it yet. He likes it.

Try to find another RC'er. Surely they will have some type of fluid. OR, you could just order a whole bunch of stuff, dont forget the shock oil, and it would justify placing an order and paying shipping, AGAIN

Back before silicone oil was widely available I used motor oil no problem.

I personally run 60-80 wt. I like the slower drop and control.

Make sure you use an oil that wont go rancid. Vegetable oils will rot after a while. Use mineral oil or motor oil.

actually that would be the way to go. as it goes rancid and produces gasses then you'll have gas charged shocks!

I started a post about torque twist and asked about oil substitutes (I'd have to order in any special shock oil and have a two week wait at least) I was wondering if a synthetic 80w gear oil would be good to combat some of the torque twist.

motor oil can break down many plastics remember it is petroleum based.

If you are gonna use motor oil use synthetics

Back when the kits like RC10 came with petroleum based oil for the shocks, I wouldn't worry about it. That or baby oil.

Run the big bores in droop setup.

Find a motor-sports shop and get some fork oil. I think the heaviest it comes is 30wt, but it will work. That actually is all that we are *supposed* to run in the HPI Baja - silicone don't hurt that, so fork oil shouldn't hurt a crawler.
