Default Mudweiser - The King of Mud

Well this all started with Darthracer posting his WK on R7R, I just knew I was going to have to have one. Well after looking around I noticed a lot of people we're keeping them eitther as mudders/bashers or making them into trail rigs, seemed like only the diehards we're going crawler. So I figured a HellCAT Chassis would be just the ticket, scale apperance and performance to boot.

So I've been working on the design in what little freetime I have and I finally have something I think is worth posting. The goal was simple, mount as much of the stock kit to a HellCAT chassis as possible, that way the cost stays low.

I'll just repost all the pics.

The mock up.

The servo mount, I went a different route here, I wanted the servo above the diff, I think it looks better and when at full articulation it fits in between the frame rails, plus it makes it more like a TLT, and TLT axles have become integrated in my DNA.

Alright I got some time to test her out back, and I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't overwhelmed with the Wheely king initially, but after today I would have no fears of recommend this rig.

Here's a few pics, she's suppose to be a trail rig but everyone wants artic shots.

It's had to tell but the truck is on an incline and she handled it well, drove in and out, as a matter a fact she never rolled in the back yard, the COG seems to be just fine, the battery being low really helps.

Alright now for a really quick movie, keep in mind the axles are box stock, the diffs are NOT locked, so I'm completely relying on wheel speed.

right click and save as.

The only time I got the truck to roll was out on the street at full throttle in a turn and I don't mean turning at full throttle I mean keeping it pegged all the way through a turn, the torque compressed the suspension and caused it to roll.

Another demonstration of the COG despite the motor being mounted so high in the stock position, I drove around the rock several times and didn't roll once.

This is a design that has been in the works, this is the second version or third version, I have had 2 TLT's using a similar design. This is the first HellCAT running with the battery tray, which was originally used on my crawler Twisted.

The idea was to keep it all simple, I have friends that want some chassis and are really only interested in bashing and mudding and from my experience a laydown is not that great for mud, the further out of the mud and the water the better. I was concerned with the COG and considered clocking the motor but that would shift the weight off center. But as you can see from the pics, she has no problem with fliping and is very well balanced, of course with the battery riding on the axle, it would take a lot more weight to shift the COG than a motor, a hardbody and a bunch of scale gear might do it.

Also the width of these axles helps a lot.
