I'm making notes here. You guys know that right? When we were at GRCF, one of the things I heard at least three times was "tubers don't roll well" - and that got me to drawing up something for the tuber I want to build to put over my WK axles. Oddly enough, it's rounded on the top, and looks a whole lot like a VW bug in it's profile. Then along comes the Cobra. I guess this is going to be called the King Cobra huh? ....3k wt... Since the word "disconnect" has been used twice in this thread, and I just picked up a radio with enough channels to control two shafties with 4ws and disconnects at the same time, would anyone care to point out something "authoritative" on how a noob should make a disconnect? I may come in dead last at my next comp too, but I'll have more fun doing it. |

According to the number I wrote on the pinon it's a 13. My other rig has a 15 and 8 cells. I have a feeling I'll be searching for some pinion gears when it's built. cotharyus, take all the notes you want. If it was a secret it wouldn't be on the forums. If it makes other drivers better that's cool...better competition. | |

Quick update: Didn't do much tonight, just cut all the 6-32 screws for the body panels to length and made a couple of front lower suspension links which are 114mm eye to eye. Also stuck a TLT stay on the 3-link mount. Put the lower suspension links on and mounted the front shocks just to start attaching the front. They'll be moved from their current position once I get all eight links installed. (Ultimately I want to run a WK style 3-link) Dropped the R2/Crawlmaster combo on the skid to mock things up. Those of you who wish to run a pede tranny will need to do a bit of trimming around the motor housing. The frame could've been made wider to accommodate a full laydown pede tranny (can also mount the pede tranny vertical so that the outputs are centered but you'll take a slight CG hit) but there's no sense in making it that wide when a little trimming of the bulky motor housing on the tranny will allow it to fit. Anyway, it's not much of anything, but it's progress. Yes, the Erickson beadlocks make it wiiide but they look killer and give some much needed weight down low. Double narrowed RPM Revolvers for the rear of the E-Pede will put it at 10.25" A few pics: Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 07-02-2007 at 10:57 PM. |

| Looks sharp. This is the first chassis that I would actually consider purchasing instead of building (if I wasn't so cheap and stubborn, that is). I thought it was ugly as sin until I saw your father's rig completed and on the rocks; I guess it grew on me. Good luck with this one! BTW, what's your secret to freeing up so much time for all these builds? -WRM |

Hey Rich! Good to see you around. That's a helluva compliment, especially coming from someone with your skills. Ugly as sin...not the first time that's been said about this frame. Free time? Dude...it's 2A.M. and I'm on the forums. Quote:

| 2AM!? I forgot where you lived... . It's only a little after 11PM here; I'm debating going to sleep or waiting until Wyatt wakes up for a bottle and a diaper change... . I bought him a cheapo New Bright wrangler the other day for his first "RC," but he mainly just drags it around by the antennae. -WRM |

Blake, I'll just run the panels. Took a break from work to make the upper suspension links. I made them at ~ 112mm eye to eye, but I will probably bring them down to ~109 or so. Right now I've got a bit too much caster and the pinion angle could stand to come down some. Also stuck some double-narrowed RPM rear Revolvers on. This brought the track width down to a comp friendly 10.25" I also moved one of the shocks to the outside of the shock/link mounts on the WK axle. Since the width of the frame was increased a bit to fit the pede tranny I decided to move the shocks out at the lower attachment point. They'll work just fine in either position. (see 2nd pic) I used conical washers from www.xtremercracing.com to space the upper shock mount out from the frame and give it a bit freer movement. |

JIA.... it comes with a skid plate for the bottom right...? is it just like a peice of aluminum like on all becks tubers or is it a plastic one..? and it looks like your shocks are sat all the way down... couldnt you do the stops on them to get the caster better... like lift it a little more..? looking great |

Offroader, I bought paint for the panels today. blake, the skid is 10mm delrin. Regarding shocks and caster...the truck is 1/4 built. At least let me get it built as a roller. The shocks don't have anything to do with caster angles of the knuckles, that's handled through the upper and lower link lengths. On this truck shocks only serve to slow the movement of the suspension. |
