Default droop suspensions?

Ok so what is the advantage to a "droop" suspension? I guess that it would give you a lower center of gravity and all, but I am assuming that it is strictly for a crawler rig, right? It looks like most of the pics of droop rigs that I have seen dont have any other sort of suspension, could someone explain the advantages or disadvantages to using this type of suspension?
Thanks!
Jay
