Default His Droopyness

Dear RCCrawler.com,

I would like to first introduce myself as a long-time lurker, creep, once-flamed to the point of destruction, third-time poster, with a newly-found obsession known as, well you're familiar, rc crawling.

Long-windedness aside, what follows is the current state of my ghetto-knighted WK, His Droopyness. This truck has been ultra-entertaining from its stock form, providing me with a much needed escape from the sometimes stress-inducing real world.

I searched this forum rigorously after reading several posts with advice from JIA's Dad, and have subsequently arrived at a setup that I believe is somewhat unique, and most definately capable.

Stats:
WB: 12 9/16 in (all numbers in inches)
Track: 8 3/4
Overall Width: 9 3/4
Center Chassis Clearance: 2 and uhhhhh..... 1/2?
Diff. Clearance: 1 3/4
Traxxas TX5
Integy 45t
HPI 96t Spur
Lost a new 15t pinion , so currently stock 20t
Outside-narrowed, inside-trimmed Stampede 2.2 Rear Wheels
2.2 Moab's w/ the ubiquitous star-cut standard foams
1/16th inch steel rear-attached servo mount w/ stock servo
Zip-ties abound
Stainless 18gague wire
Plenty of 4/40 lock-nuts

Relavent tech-related content:

In the droop setup I'm currently running, I've installed stretched-out retractable-pen springs in the interior of the rear shocks, no springs in the front with Dremel polishing-wheel bumpstops, and Motocraft MTX-75 Automatic Transmission oil in all four shocks. I've entertained adding mechanical pencil springs (which are about a third the lenght of the above-mentioned springs) all around on the outside of the shocks for some extra cushioning, and smoother style.
Has anyone else run a similar set-up, and how has it worked for you?

Well with the relief that I've actually asked a technical question, I can only hope that the mods will allow this build-thread-of-sorts to propagate, as I'm eager to hear what fellow members have to say about this truck.

I like how utilitarian the wheels look.

I ran some springs inside on my droop setup, but didnt get enough flex. I am running shorter shocks than you though with 3k diff fluid in front and 100wt in rear.

looks good but you should build a custom chassis and get some bigger tires. Hope you can ge tin to the mix of rcc without problems this time around. good luck......

-- I'm not getting much flex either, though it does provide stability in the rear for climbs and such.

"looks good but you should build a custom chassis and get some bigger tires. Hope you can ge tin to the mix of rcc without problems this time around. good luck......

-- I'll eventually go the custom chassis route, most likely a replica of a contemporary 1:1 competition rock crawler or rock racer. As for the tire situation, what bigger, taller tires would you suggest? The only ones that have appealed to me are the 40series/2.2 hybrids, as nobody seems to make a sticky, tall 2.2, and I'm not quite ready to cut up brand-new meats.

"Looks good but whats unique about it?"

-- 'a setup that I believe is somewhat unique'.... I've put my own spin on several mods (front steering servo mount for example). Find me another stock chassis, arbitrarily stretched (12 9/16in ), ultra-narrow, droop Wheely King and I'll recant this rebuttal.

* I'm new to forums, so if someone could explain how to quote multiple times in a post, do let me know so I might create a less cluttered reply.

How is that front servo mounted? Hard to see the back or bottom.

Rig looks good. Looks like you used the search button well. Might i just say that i think you need to upgrade the body to something nicer. And did you have to do and mods to the axles to get the peds to clear the knuckels?

Thank you; I did search, and I had the unequivocal help of a certain second-cousin; I'm saving my pennies; Modifications necessary to fit the stamp rears were minimal, consisting of trimming the innermost edge of the wheel itself, and trimming the (stock) steering link and screw that attaches it to the steering knuckle(proper terminology??) so as to avoid the inherent rubbing. No axle mods; as you can see in the pics, the C's fit entirely within the wheels.
