I was wondering if 8 inches of independant wheel travel is too much for a rock crawler?? right now I have 4 Savage shocks on the truck but I could put my 4 Rustler rear shocks on it if that would make it any better Last edited by mastathug0; 09-27-2007 at 09:35 AM.

i would say drive it and see if its too much for your driving style. personally, i say 8 inches is too much and use the shorter shocks.

I drive the truck all the time and I cant decide how I want it.. the truck has wicked ability to go over lots of rocks but it rolls over alot cause the truck becomes insanely top heavy so I dont know what to go with rolling and 8 inches of articulation or not rolling and about 4 inches of articulation

Now that I think about it taking out the Savage shocks would probably make it so the truck doesnt scrape the lower links as much, because the will be like this _____v_______ instead of this /v\ (v=chassis) so it might help some

I'd think in this situation, the question becomes will the truck still go over the same obstacles with the shorter shocks? If it will, then go with the shorter shocks. If not, then maybe split the difference and go back to the stock WK shocks. Constant rollovers are no fun. Are you still using the stock chassis, or something custom? It sounds like you need to start re-locating things, battery, etc, to get the weight as close to the ground as possible.

Im still using the stock chassis (for now). As far as the wheely king shocks go I only have 3 because I kinda smashed my truck into a frame straightener and destroyed on shock and cracked the body. I havent decided whether to build a custom tuber, buy a tuber chassis, or just reverse the Wheely King chassis. So far the truck is just stretched while still using the stock servo location with just a longer steering rod. This is only because I didnt buy my metal geared servo yet. I did already built the servo mount for the front axle, like I said I just need to get the metal geared servo before I can hook it up again. Without the metal geared servo it just shatters the gears of a plastic one (you guys probably already know that). I did just try the truck and it seems to get hung up in the middle, but I did just try some new tires on it too, so that might also be the problem. To be honest shock wise Im kinda thinking of buying 2 new Wheely King shocks and putting the guts into my Aluminum Clodbuster shock bodies, to beef them up a bit.

I think you'll find that 8" is too much travel for a comp rig. Now if this is just to bash around with, then imo there is no right or wrong answer to this question. If your happy with how it drives, then go for it. As regards your shock dilema, you would be better off not purchasing another set of the wk shocks (they're garbage imo) and purchasing some hot bodies or traxxas ones instead. Look at TCS and RCP and see whats out there that you like the looks and cost of. Good Luck

Seeing the problem helps to solve it. PICS would help.

Alright I set up my Clodbuster aluminum shocks with Wheely King shock shafts and it seems to work a lot better since it was in between my two previous options. Thanks to anyone who posted info and help it was greatly appreciated. Last edited by mastathug0; 10-11-2007 at 07:43 AM.
