Default New Guy Yo...

how goes it? i picked up a wheely king last week. its at 12" wheelbase now with traxxas parts. new driveshafts. jb welded the diffs. i ahve the 15 t pinion waitin on the 96 spur.. should be here today. i am buildin her for rocks/ dirt trails. im in the process of building a trail system right now in my yard.one of the mods ive been most happy with is drilling bigger holes in the rims and cut up my tires. i lost 70 grams of weight off the tires. and they flex just great now. has anyone else done this? i havent taken any pics yet. i'll do that tonite.

wicked board B.T.W. it helped with my descision on which truck too get. and also explained the mods and parts i needed.. thanks...

Do you mean cutting your stock tires to look something like this?

I ran my tires like this for a few months. I dremelled of the portions of lugs and sanded down the sidewalls. They were super soft - well, actually, almost too soft - and I did'nt bother to put foam in. They worked a heckuva lot better than in stock form, that's for sure. Well worth the effort until I managed to get a set of Rock Claws.

Cheers,
Sean

I can definitely tell a difference. I just used a hobby knife from Home Depot. It came with a ton of blades and two different sized handles.

That looks quite similar to my tires after the first cut:

I used three cut-off wheels stacked on my dremel. Cut those grooves like a charm and with little chance of a serious cut to the fingers/leg (unlike with an x-acto(?) kinife:
