yep. First time building a crawler and I decided to do a tuber with WK axles. I looked at how tubers were built and I figured that was the way for me to go. That and with corycrawler's advice on the axles I've made my decision. Then I got down to the nuts and bolts of planning how I was going to bend the tubing. I figured I'd do it by hand but then that would end up being nothing short of impossible, so no thanks. Instead, I decided to create a tube bender. Not only would it save my hands but it would give nicer bends. So here we go. got the bender built, tested it out and it looked good. ![]() That's roughly six inches of brake line there. I'm going to go with the R2 tranny with dig, either savage or punisher driveshafts, and possibly portal axles, depending on how much ground clearance I need. Brushless? definitely. I got a great place to test out a crawler too. check these out. ![]() Last edited by Sabin; 10-19-2007 at 07:39 PM. Reason: added more content

yeah, man it is super easy to build a tuber around the r2 trans, just remember the output shaft on the axle is larger than the output shaft on the r2, so keep that in mind when choosing your ds, and determining the length of your rig, in retrospect I would have went with jatos or maxxs or somehthing else plastic as far as driveshafts. good luck, once you get started it will consume all of your spare time, espesicially when you get to about 51%

that kinda looks like an old Cady with the huge wings on the back! just kidding, not really, but it does look like a cool design, esp for your first tuber!;)

I'm starting to run into issues during prototyping. I've heard people have been running jato links, but for some reason I can't find how long they are ball end to ball end.

okay well, after virtual testing with artic, droop, turning, ground clearance and whatnot, the design had to be revised.. again. So I cut out half the lengths, and ended up with what looked like the old design but has half the bits. And now the design was put on paper (which makes it final) and now the tubing has been cut to length!

Of course this is not to say I won't have the first revision I did in the future when I order some 40 size wheels with 17mm hex adapters. *HINT!* Last edited by Sabin; 02-02-2008 at 01:27 AM. | |
