We had some trouble with the esc shutting down when we first got the king, then we lowered the gearing as suggested. Last night my son said the ESC started to smoke and he shut it all down. The truck is still working, just looking for some ideas? Would love to get rid of the pause going into reverse from forward also!

The stock WK ESC is an absolute piece of GARBAGE. I suppose it could work ok in something like a touring car or something light like that, but it just doesn't have what it takes to make a heavy rig go. I replaced mine with a $30 Moped ESC and it works great! It still has the reverse delay, though. (frustrating) If you've got more money to spend, a Novak Super Rooster or Rooster Crawler are awesome ESC's. But do yourself a real favor and ditch the Jolt+R

The stock ESC has been great to me, I ran it for about a year in my comp rig. That being said, I finally upgraded to the Mamba Max and I will never look back. The MM has every feature you will ever need in a crawler and will be the last ESC you buy

The stock ESC is a piece of crap. Get a moped, or if you want a ESC with no delay get a rebel2 they are a pretty good ESC. You can find them used for a pretty good price.

Just to echo the others, I also got a MOPED from the vendors section for $30 shipped. It is a great step in the right direction, but the reverse delay is a tad frustrating. That being said, the reverse delay is not near as long as the stock ESC.

Duratrax Intellespeed, mamba max or 25, tekin rebel, novak super rooster, or a moped would all be good. It all depends on how much money you want to spend.

I guess I could easily spend 135$ on a MM with good success... However, the stock ESC while not the best, is still OK for non-comp rigs. I suggest to change only when it's gone...

I have run both the rooster crawler and the mamba max, and let me say the mamba is the last esc I will ever buy (until castle comes out with something better, of corse) it just works flawlessly in anything. the flexability is astounding. The Rooster is decent, but for only 45 bucks less it isn't worh it. keep the jolt till you can afford the mamba, you won't regret it.
