stock gearing is 21 / 90. im using 21 / 96 with a 65 turn lathe and find it great all around.

i was thinking about a 35t but my lhs's lowest is 45 or 55.
would a 15/90 be good with stick motor for now?

you wont be able to get your gear mesh tight enough using the 15 tooth pinion with a 90 tooth spur, your motor will hit the tranny case. thats why i went with the 96 tooth hpi spur. i also bought a 15 and 16 tooth pinnion but found i like running my 21 tooth with the 96

i wouldnt say its in the middle but just going to a 96 tooth spur with the stock motor and pinion made a noticeable difference in the bottom power and diddnt make the speed suffer verry much. but i still put a 65t integy motor in mine and run 96/21 and think it works verry well allaround.
