Anything other than the stock ESC is better. I've seen a number of guys running a DuraTrax esc that cost them like $30.

I have a duratrax intellespeed. It works good. I would get one of those if your on a budget. Depending on which one you get there from $25-$60.

If you are gonna cough of the dough for a nice esc, I'd get a Mamba Max. You can run any motor & any battery with it. It's totally programable and doesn't suffer form the "glitch" issues the Novak has with cheaper radios.

It's what I run and I love it.

The esc you posted was $100 after shipping the Mamba isn't much more than that here....

You could also look into one of the cheaper brushless combos he has....

You mean a drag brake?

It's really hard to read your posts when you don't use full words.

Novak has a drag brake that is not adjustable and they are working on the programming issue. There is an entire thread about it. It might be a good idea to wait on that one.

Castle Creatons (makers of Mamba Max) are supposed to be bringing out a "Sidewinder" ESC, which will be just like the Mamba Max, but cheaper. I believe the difference between the two will be that the sidewinder will not be able to handle as much juice, but with the motors we all run, it's not an issue.

Other than Novak Crawler & the Mamba Mmax, I'm not sure who has a drag brake ESC currently for sale. The Moped & TR2 are both common but neither of them have drag brakes if I recall correctly.

You need to look at specs. I used Novak XRS (45$) for a while ,but the bec sucks. Tekin rebel 2 has way better bec and more input power (75$), Rooster crawler is the only one designed for crawlers(90$). Mamba Max is the best period(135). If you dont have the cash, you will have to figure out what has the most important features to you for your money. Drag brake is nice, but not all important unless you compete. Find what has the best bec and input voltage for your buck and start there.

Don't forget you can get a MM for under $135 if you shop ...

And for any of them that have crap BECs, you can run a seperate BEC like the Castle Creations unit ($20).

Also, you do not HAVE to get a new ESC just for the 55t motor. You can run it for a while (even with a 7-cell) to see if Novak sorts out their issues or what the Sidewinder will cost.
