You might want to rethink the $5 practice. That will turn away a lot of people. How much is it to compete? Some place charge $5 a season or $10 a year for comps to pay for trophies stop watches paper etc.

When I talked with the owner he hadnt said anything about charging. For the SCRC club comp there shouldnt (better not) be a charge. Of course when they host their own I have no say.

everyone complains about not having enough places to crawl. Support, have fun and enjoy. I have crawled at Orland and its a lot of fun. Its a different setup and expanding still, i recommend getting out there and giving ideas while the time is right.

Personally I'm not complaining about $5, but IMO practice should be free, take donations, charge to enter a comp, but practice should be free. With retail markup being over 50% HobbyTown will make some good money selling replacement parts, plus wouldn't you be disappointed if you paid the $5, broke something on your crawler, and they didn't have the repair part in stock? Then you're out $5 for???? Just my $0.02....

X2

We don't charge for the use of our course here in Naperville but we will accept donations.

I understand that they have a reason to charge due to the fact they have to pay utilities because is in a different location then the store so I can understand the cover charge.

Ced as for the markup being around 50% that really depends on the part, some parts there is close to no markup at all.....

But thats just me talking.....

^ Not cool... Don't know if that's for real or not, but telling everybody the day before a comp that it will be $15 is well... in my mind low.

Default prices

I tried to post a few days ago but my computer was down. It is only $15.00, our course is in a separate space and that is not free. The bottom line is the course has to be self sufficient and pay for itself. I am sorry it took me so long to post about the prices, but I have been very busy for guys who don't know I work 1 full time job and 2 part time jobs and I am president of a flying club. Plus, I like to play with my toys sometimes. AGAIN I AM SORRY

How come nobody else associated with SCRC or HobbyTown USA Naperville, or anyone else active on the forums knew about this fee? We have formed a club, SCRC, which is responsible for communicating with each other, organizing events and competitions, Yes we are happy to have the opportunity to use the course at HobbyTown USA Orland Park, but seriously, waiting until the day before and posting that it will cost $15? As MattG said, not cool. aceedmonds are you a member of SCRC? Or are you an employee of HobbyTown USA? Just curious.

I think everyone who shows up tomorrow not expecting the $15 fee will be pissed, and I know some folks will be driving longer distances, this should have been communicated. Is the crawler course located near the store? Is it easy to find? Myself along with others were led to believe that the course is at HobbyTown USA Orland Park?

Thanks for the quick response, I will be posting info elsewhere tonight, see if I can make others aware of the fee.

So a recap:

$15 to get in the door
$15 gas (45 mile drive each way) PLUS TOLLS

to get 10% off of parts....and run our trucks on a course for 10 minutes. (5 minutes per run maximum) And I am almost certain that you carry almost nothing that will fit my rig...so 10% off of nothing.

And there are Pit tables and power for chargers.

Who has a battery in a crawler that would need a charge for 10 minutes of run time?????

I am having a difficult time seeing how this makes any real sense. The hobby store is alienating the people that it wants as customers. A reasonable fee of $5 for people is probably more palatable. I will not boycot this comp and I will pay, but NOT in support of this HT location, but more in support of SCRC because I want to support their success.

Hilarious!
I'm with you xirtic, I will be there tomorrow, but I'm not happy about the $15, now if there were mention of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes??? Maybe $15 wouldn't seem so bad, but 10% off products? Thanks, but no thanks. I'm also in agreement about the need to support SCRC, I want this club to work.
