I want a 2wd racer as well.. Like a T4.1, SC10 or something. Something track specific that is useless & fragile off the track because its so light weight and racey. I want to have to control the power & counter-steer.. I think that would be fun. There is a small outdoor dirt track about 5min from my house. I'll have to check it out.

I have a Rustler... it's no T4.1 but I was thinking of putting it back together as a go-fast backup to the Slash.

The T4 is nice but if you want a drivers truck/car, the B4 or the B44 is hard to beat.

I have a 2 wheel drive sc10 roller and slash roller if your intrested. The sc10 is a great truck for racing and the 2 wd are so easy to work on not much to them.

Yeah, a 10th scale buggy is what people have always talked about as being the "drivers car".

If it wasn't a Horizon Hobby (and Losi) the new TLR 22 is a pretty sweet little buggy.

anyone know of a good brazing tutorial?
The video stickied in the Tools, Procedure section is dead.

Should I use solid rod or brake line?
I don't want it to bend rolling down Foster!

Can you give me some advice. I finally got the money to buy my rally. I was going with the DRX VE Subi.

What would you do?

Buy the Kyosho

or

Wait until Oct of this HPI bad a$$ Block. I hate to wait that long, that is three month and who know the price.

But I see the HPI comes with , Castle stuff, Alum shock towers, swap bars,

I really like both but $$$$

Well I also get killer service from HPI my shop has friend there and replacement parts are easy or free.

what would you do?

Do you know how to solder? If so you can braze! That is what I have found. The biggest issue is if you are trying to braze solid plate to a rod, or rod to tube, because they heat at different rates. So that can be a bit of a pain. Just get the parts fitting tightly, or as tightly as possible, brace them so that they don't move, apply flux to the area where you want the solder to flow and remove any excess, then apply the heat and wait until the flux flows and the metal just begins to get an orange tinge. After that apply the solder to the area and it should melt and flow and then pull off the heat.

Definitively go with MAPP. But as both Neil and Jason have pointed out, the oxygen based system especially for detail work probably works better because it only heats a small area and faster.

I used the brake line in building the interior rollcage for the Clod and its quite strong, but it is a bit bendable so I'd be worried about building an entire chassis out of it for the reason you mention. And to some extent Jason has mentioned he's need to straighten parts of Timmy. I did use brake line to do a bunch of support pieces that I added to the bronco chassis.

Both the Clod and the bronco chassis I have were done out of solid rod. Seems to way to go for the bigger structural elements, just more of a pain to cut and bend.

Buy a cheap 8th scale buggy from eBay (Losi, RC8, HotBodies D8, etc). and then buy a new lid and shove it on. Oh and get whatever true 8th scale ESC/motor system fits the budget.

HPI I bet is $500

It would probably be about the same cost, but you wouldn't get the crap ass RTR parts.

I used to race 2wd buggy and it is a finesse driving class for sure. I really want a b44.1. I used ti be a losi guy through and through, but I'm definitely leaning back towards the dark side.

the reason i tweaked timmys tube bed wasnt as much because it was made of brakeline, but because it wasnt finished (still isnt...) and lacked any decent structural support/triangulation.

i had no chassis crossmembers behind the skid, and the tube bed only attached to the chassis at the very end of the chassis rails. thats about a 5" span of chassis and tube that was straight without any triangulation at all... it only took a little bit of leverage at the end of the chassis to tweak it.

chuck, losi is the darkside...

i love 2wd buggies. they just dont make good bashers and you pretty much need to race them on a nicely maintained track to really have fun with them.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd go HPI. I just imagine them both getting hung up on small rocks/debree and having a hard time getting through unmowed grass. Eh.

A short grass race track with trees and 4 scale feet of curb drop off onto asphalt? Interesting.

Well it is 8th scale, and the tires probably won't be much smaller than the 10th scale SC tires I would imagine, so it probably won't suffer any worse than the Slash 4x4s, etc.

Ahh.. I thought they were smaller. You think they would be able to run that indoor track we were at?

It's that what Rally's about?

I plan on making a few bridges and ramps. I just tore down my old wooden fence.

Ya I saw a guy mock up the Subi. body on his Slash 4x4 smaller tire and it really wouldn't look bad.
