Make me a couple of big wheel axle adapters!

BTW, last night I asked Susan if she wants to split up... she said no.
I may be having a mid life crisis... perhaps I should buy a Corvette... or a GTO!

Finding something that already exists with an electric motor/drive unit on it would drastically make this easier. Like a childs electric gocart or something. Ideally it would have a motor with a chain/belt to a gear on an axle. Not a motor on wheel setup. Then, I would just have to make brackets.

Any ideas?

Big wheel axle adapters? Eh, for what? There are 17mm adapters for the 12mm hex axles aplenty!

i dont think the dolly really needs a motor on it.

i had no problem at all at roselle, about the only thing i would like is some sort of hinged skidplate or cage on the bottom to encase my rigs and allow me to drag it over big logs or rocks.

...if i was gonna try to motorize it i would probably get a powerwheels for all the bits and pieces.

if i was to get a cheap jeep it would be a tj. i would love love love a tj rubicon unlimited. the jk is sweet but its big and freaking expensive.

samurai's are the cheapest solid axle 4x4 you can get. ive seen some really sweet 4 door trackers with front solid axle swaps.

also, the military blazers and pickups are pretty damn cool and built like a brick shithouse. theres a dealership up around you that has them for sale every so often. i was really considering buying one of the blazers before i decided i wanted something a little more commuter friendly.

I would stay early, their mix with chrysler took them down hill.

If you want something really solid I'd look at a Tacoma, 2000 to 2004 range. Get a single cab and jack it up. Those trucks are sweet and they live forever. They also hold their value really well.

I'd love one too but I was thinking something in the sub $5000 range.

jeep yj's are pretty nice too. theyre the last wranglers with leaf springs. prolly find one of those for cheap, but i would definitely source one from the southwest to get something rust-free. they rust about as bad as the sammies do.

If your thinking of a Jeep, I can help. I have had a 1946 M38, a 1971 CJ5 and 2 1997 TJs.

IMHO, stay away from YJs, they were the square headlight model between the CJs and TJs made between 87 and 95. CJs (and YJs are leaders, TJs, LJs and JKs are Links.

The TJ is a great platform to work with as long as you go with an X, Sport, Sahara or Rubicon. Stay away from the SE, the 4 banger will kill you. The 4.0L six is a great motor. Trannys are a bit of a personal decision, I chad a 5 speed and an Auto. The Auto is surprisingly fuel efficient (comparatively, 16 highway is doing good on these). The standard defends better than an Auto off road, but the auto is better (IMHO) on the rocks.

You want a 2" lift for 32's, a 4" lift for 33" (what I recommend) and a 6" for 35's. The Dana 35Cs suck unless they are upgraded to Superior Axles and Gears. 4:88 is a good ratio for off road, 4:11s on. If you want to really play, go 5:13s and up. The Rubicon had Dana 44s with Jeeps licensed version of the ARB Air Lockers. on other models, you can get away with a Detroit Locker in the rear, but NOT in the front unless you want to trailer it.

Stay away from Tube bumpers and sliders as they really cause some problems on sharp pointed rocks due to the Jeeps weight. Square Tube sliders and Warn style shorty bumpers are the way to go.

Ok, did I spew enough? ping me if you have any questions.

I also have a jeep addiction so if you've got questions let me know. Ive had an 80 full size cherokee chief SJ, 83 cj7 with the 4cyl, 98 Cherokee 4dr xj auto wit the 4.0, 87 Comanche manual with the 4cyl. I like the 4cyl with manuals. They did great offload. As a dd it would have to be the 4.0 like Neil said. I do like the yj's though.
