Hey... I live in a Northwest suburb of Chicago and looking for any course for crawling in the area. I'm new to RC cars but been RC'ing with planes for a long time. Just bought a Losi NC 2.0 and building course at the house but looking for possible other places around here to go... Also have a 1/8 XXL2e for bashing fun

My clubs in Rockford were like 2 hours from Chicago. We have around 600 members and have trail runs at least once a week.

Anyone actually in the city want to get together at one of the parks/beaches etc? Montrose Harbor, Lincoln Park, 31st street beach down to like 35th all have great places to wheel. Never saw that windycity meetup.

Looked at earth view and was wondering about the terrain at these spots as it looks rather flat, I usually hit the forest preserves out west but also looking for something fresh.

There's a sticky on the top of the page for some good local crawling spots: NIRC Comp Spot Maps

So is anyone still getting together up here? I know with covid, things are all messed up but it has gotten me back into the hobby in a pretty serious way. I even started messing around building obstacles in my backyard.

I haven’t really done much for crawling, or even much of anything R/C, for years until last summer when I went out bashing with a friend from about a year ago until sometime in September when the days got shorter.

think most of the principals that used to run NIRC or join in, have moved out of the state or lost interest.

There is a fair amount of rock crawling out of rockford.
Rock Valley RC Crawlers forum on facebook.

occasionally I have joined them... was revamping to rigs with the hope of joining more this spring.

Spent enough time working in a LHS as well as retail in general that I eventually just got physically and mentally burned out things on top of Mom’s health doing into decline and since my hobbies were tied to that job for 15 years and I tried to stay closer to home if Dad needed help, so those hobbies suffered as well. When I got fired 4 years ago in June I decided to avoid retail at all costs and found my self in a call center job that I’m still in now. I’ve been gradually getting back into it now that I’m making more money, and sadly, with Mom’s passing in January, that had freed up more time until this whole COVID thing started where I couldn’t go crawl due to stay at home if I wasn’t already working O/T for the same reason.

I looked for the place in Roselle recently with no luck. Found the parking spot, found the trail, but couldn't find anything that looked like a "comp spot". I do want to try the North Dam at Busse woods, and heard today Raceway Forest Preserve and the dry creek next to the BMX track in Elgin can be pretty good too. Other areas I'd like to try include Waterfall Glen when it's been real dry and Lemont quarry.

Zero is still around!!
Interest is still there. Life gets in the way sometimes.
The lockdown forced me to get my rc stuff back out. Got most of it running again. Still need a decent radio for my serious stuff. Lol
Too many rainy camping comps ruined my pos flysky garbage.
Chris knows what I’m talking about.
Geoff and I still gtg regularly. Mostly build small stuff. 1/24 static and rage on the force feedback wheel.
But occasionally we hit the trail. Cool spot in Morton grove and I’m sure the foster beach spot is still viable. If you can get down there. Cpd still has that area locked down last time I drove by. Today :(
Be safe out there all. Hope to get out there more in 21. Cheers!

Yup, still around... been working, here and there, on some rigs for my niece and nephew.

Oh and one for myself too.

I’ll be honest, it’s given me time to work on my old stuff and build a Clod and Lunchbox!
