Default Aug 4th Scale TTC style GTG Palos Hills

August 4th at Swallow Cliff in Palos (old toboggan run)

Cal Sag Hwy. (Rt 83) between 104th Ave. & LaGrange Rd. (96th Ave., Rt. 45)

Planning an informal GTG. Run what you bring - no class formalities.
Parking is close and spot is easy to get to with wheeled carts and wagons.

Plan on at least 3 events:

Hill climb (several different hills)
Sled pull
Trail / scaler challange

Jeff and I scouted the area after the G3 race and all the water ways are dried up. Unless we get some rain, you will not have to worry about getting wet here this time.

Bummer, We may have to carry in our own water to make a mud pit.
We found a couple damp spots but nothing near wet enough to make a mud run.

Here's a few pics of the area from last year when some water was still there.

We did did alot of scouting last year to find some new locations to run the comp trucks. Found limited spots for comp but found alot of great scale places.
The Palos forest preserve is huge with over 100 miles of mountain bike trails and scale truck paradise. Along the river and I&M shipping canal offers many more spots we haven't even touched yet.

There should be some good spots around Crystal Lake and Algonquin. Lots of quarries around there. Too bad they are all private.

my usual driving time for busse and roselle is around 45 minutes, and john said the g6 spot a few weekends ago only took him about 45 minutes to get to.

from the pics above this location beats all of ours that we comp in terms of scale terrain.

It was a breeze getting down there... took a while to get back because it started raining. My in-law's live in LaGrange though, I might just turn it into a family dinner next time.

The G3 spot was well worth the drive... but I still gotta figure out the hike part.

the swallow cliff spot is an easy walk, you can get to the good stuff in 5-10 mins of leisurly walking from the parking lot. The trail is also fairly level and flat from foot traffic.

i bought a dolly bigger than the one john uses and it seems to be pretty suited for trekking thru the woods. it was a night and day difference lugging 3 rigs and all my gear back to the roselle spot with a dolly compared to carrying everything by hand.

The trails start maybe just over 100 yards from the parking lot. From there its just a matter of how far in you want to go. I figure we will set up camp / pit areas just a little ways in from the bridge off the bike trail.
I plan to be at the park by 9:00 to start setup. We can start running around 10.
Open format running. Bounce between events or run the same one multiple times as long as everyone gets a chance.
I plan to bring a couple of my NR/CTPA competition sled pullers for a little practice as well.

As stated in the first post: run what you brung...anything electric goes.
This will be as informal as possible. More of a test and tune kind of day.
Bring the E-Maxxs and Summits if you want.
If it goes over well, we can plan another more formal scored event here maybe in Sept.
The recent storms should have filled up the water ways a bit. I'll have to scout the area a day or 2 before the event to see how much water is left to play in.

I'm interested, but it really depends on the b***h, and also if I can finish assembling my two new truck builds.
