Default Axial The Iron Mountain Depot RECON G6

I plan on attending this event. Is anyone local going?

Axial "The Iron Mountain Depot" Recon G6
April 12th 2014 in St. Louis MO

2014 Events

After watching a few G6 videos on youtube and seeing that its going to be this close to home I decided I can't miss it.

I've never participated in any crawler competitions before. I pretty much just hit trails on my own on the weekends. I did meet up with Johnny and Trey once at a park in Chicago. So I have no competition experience. I just plan on entering in the Adventurist 1.9 class so I'm thinking my lack of competition exp. wont matter much.

Anyone have any pointers or rig prep for the event. I'm currently running a few pretty much stock SCX10's

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone was interested in going down there for the event.

Hey Mike, long time no see!
Yes, as of now I think 9 of us are going down.

Just try to make sure your rig can run all day long... loctite should help.
And a few extra lipo's.

Has anyone found a place to get event info at. I looked around and have come up with very little.

Where is it exactly? And what are the lodging options?

it says must have:
- 10 scale items is mandatory.
- 5 train robbery items are mandatory. This may include posse items.

So does that mean 15 items? and wtf is a train robbery item?
In Chicago you just need to be standing close enough to the doors you can start running after you grab the sleeping guys IPod!

After seeing the theme for the event, and seeing that 5 train robbery items will be required... I decided to build a custom rig for the event. I saw a Toyota BJ45 pickup with a steel and wood steak bed that Full speed design built. here is the link.
Ute BJ

I'm going to build something pretty close to that. All weathered and rusty except with a faded red cab instead of the white cab. I'm also going to add wood sides to the steak bed. It should have an old school wild west train robber look to it. I was planning in putting some old style company logo on the doors like "James Bros. Mining" or something like that. Then for in the back of the truck make a bunch of Dynamite crates and some old school t- handle wood detonator boxes. blasting wire spools, Shovels, Axial guns, etc.

The Landi body showed up yesterday. Today I cut sanded glued it to shorten it about 3 inches and create a 5 window pickup cab just like the FSD one. I also picked up all the steel and wood for the bed. I plan to do all the fab work on that tomorrow. Hopefully start making the scale accessories and start painting during the week. I'll post some picks as it progresses.

We'll see how it goes. I might just be wheeling my Jeep.

Here is a few in progress sneak peak photos of my g6 rig dubbed "The Boxcar" I still have a long way to go. More weathering. Scale 1/2 interior, finish the bed planking, finish the bed sides. make crates for the working 1/10 scale dynamite, make other scale accessories. make a steel front bumper ,add a winch or 2, Add LED lights, Illinois plates, get and weather some scale wheels. weather the chassis. make door logos. its going to be a long couple of weeks prepping.
