Didn’t see any other section this topic fit, sorry if wrong place.

Anyone ever go to this event? Interested in feedback, thinking of taking my kids.

Thanks! I had not seen that before. Looks like a pretty full event. Clearly it is geared more as public display rather than a competition.

I don't know how serious it is but a bit down the page it says "Bring your own RCs" and one of the listed events says "Scaler Time Trial Competitions"

Edit: Actually just reading the rest of the events it looks like Pit Bull is putting on some events which include "Night Crawling" as well.

Re: Horizon RC Fest

Update - me and my 2 boys got to the event Friday evening, spent a bit walking around checking it all out. They had a course and event for lots of different things as indicated on the website. The courses weren’t YUGE, but plenty enough to have fun on (only event we’ve been to so nothing to compare against). We spent the rest of the evening running the Pitbull Scale Crawler course Open Practice and talking with Parker and crew.

The last section of the course had your truck on a platform where you had to drive down the passenger side of an old Chevy truck hood on maybe a 45*, cross the center rib and drive back up the driver side of the hood to the platform. It was by far the most difficult gate. Very little traction and the slightest move sent you sliding to the ground for a DNF.

Saturday morning we ran the course for real, with all the gates setup (that weren’t there the night before). You got 3 runs at the course and the classes were by tire size & scale detail, so that put us all 3 in the same class. My 10yo son, with his right arm in a cast, was the first one to complete the course. Everyone around couldn’t believe it, Parker was going nuts, high fiving him and going on - he was PUMPED!! Only 2 other drivers overall went on to complete the course. The driver that took 1st place winched his truck down the hood and back up. My boy took 2nd place (gate scores) and we weren’t there when the 3rd driver finished but his gate score was like triple of theirs we heard. We all got a free set of Rock Beast XLs for competing in each class. A guy from RC Car Action magazine took my boys pic and said they may run it in the print mag or website (waiting to hear back from him).

My same boy also brought his Traxxas Bigfoot and won a Proline body in the monster truck races.

The coolest event of the day, IMO was the Long Jump competition. They put what looked to be about a 3' tall 1/4 pipe ramp at the end of the paved air strip and some of the super fast cars / short course trucks hit that sucker wide open. IIRC, the winner hit it at a clocked 104mph and went 200+ feet (probably 40'+ high), flying over the landing zone and into the corn field beyond it.

The air show was cool, the things some of those guys can do is impressive. Some of the planes got covered in lights and did a night air show, which was awesome. They ended the night with a very legit fireworks show, with some of the planes flying around in the bursts.

Sunday we went back and ran the Scale Crawler event again, where they'd reversed direction of the course, changed some gates around and made it a fastest time event. They had changed the classes around to Mens / Women / Kids classes. My youngest boy DNF'd with stripped trans gears and my oldest boy got 3rd place in the Kids class. I ran both my trucks (G6 and C10) but just plain got beat by more power & speed.

We had a fantastic time, made new connections and learned about some G6 type events that are held close to our area that we plan on attending.

I'll try and get some pics posted up later this evening.

Finally, a pic of the Long Jump. You can see the dome shaped distance markers to the left of the guy in the red shirt.

This car came in 2nd I think, it landed near the edge of the corn field. The car that won, landed about 15-20' out IN the corn

Nice write up and congrats to the kids!
Any idea if this is held in the same spot every year? I'd make the drive and take my 9yr old. Maybe do some camping.

Re: Horizon RC Fest

I think it was in same place last year as this year. I expect it would be next year as well as there is a large air presence.

So, after spending a rainy Sunday cruising the net. Is there a "calendar" or "list of events" thats out there? Seems like you have to hit up all the different vendor's websites for any info. There's a "calender at thr top of the page, but its blank.

Just noticed that Pro-Line has release an awesome video of RC Fest coverage.

They got my blue C-10 and white G6 in the video at 3:29 and my boy pointed out that I am the one Parker high-fives, didn't even recognize myself :)

Re: Horizon RC Fest

Normally RC aircraft bore me - but the night-time airshow with the lights and fireworks at the very end of the video was AMAZING!

(insert minor gripe)

Why do they have to zip so quickly through everything in these videos?

Is it really that expensive to double or triple the length of a 5 minute YouTube video so that people could actually SEE the stuff that was going on?

Nearly everything was shown only in a rapid camera pan - and there was a lot of stuff.

If you were a person being introduced to RC - you'd be really lost.

They should leave the intro off and just jump straight into the event with a huge Proline logo and an explosion like everyone else does...
