TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

This event is postponed one week. It will be held on Sunday the 11th due to the rain we are supposed to get all day tomorrow. I'm sorry if this means you can't make it out. I will still be at the trail head for anyone who can only make it tomorrow. I will have a few prizes to give out randomly as well. We will run the whole course if weather permits.

Well I spoke with the parks department and things are looking good.

Three classes to enter denoted by wheel size: 1.5, 1.9, and 2.2
Over size tires for small size wheels will be bumped into a more realistic category according to tire size. For example, RC4WD Interco 1.55 Irocs are larger than many 1.9 tires and would be put in the 1.9 class)

  • *Creek Crossing gated rock course Gated Challenge
    • getting wet is voluntary. Course designed so water doesn’t get above your wheel hub (in a perfect world).
  • Hard Hill Climb Bonus Challenge
    • Voluntary. You will likely need a winch. (I get nervous climbing after my rig at this area)
  • Hauling Challenge Leg 4 Gated Trail
  • *Obstacle course Gated Challenge
  • Hauling Challenge Leg 5 Gated Trail
    • Trail leg 5 gates return you to the old dairy ruins
  • Free run
    • There are 7 miles of bike trails at Dornwood Park. You are encouraged to explore!

Challenge Rules
These courses are designed to be challenging to drivers. Some gates are designed for all but the most practiced drivers to brush against them! If someone scores a perfect score then I didn’t do the job I set out to do- which is make a challenging yet fun filled day of scale wheeling!!!

Reverses are allowed without penalties unless specified.
Touching a gate with your rig -(10) points
When/where reverse is penalized -(4) points
Touching your rig -(15) points
Roll over -(10) points
Winching or using accessories -(2) points
Gate Progress +(1/2) point
Completing a Bonus Challenge +(15) points

You are encouraged to assist fellow participants so that everyone scores as best as they can.

Hauling Challenge Rules
In addition to challenge rules:
  • You will be provided with a scale item to place in or on your vehicle.
    • It may go into a closed interior and rattle around
    • It may be held in place with any number of tie downs of any sort
    • It may NOT be glued, taped, clamped or fixed in place with a fastener
    • It must remain visible while on the Hauling Challenge.
  • Driver is responsible for getting it to the next challenge and tracking their own scoring
  • Scored on points
    • Each driver starts with 0 points for the Hauling Challenge. You gain one point when:
      • Item falls off or out of Rig
      • Item must be adjusted on truck (you fiddle with it)
    • You loose one point when the item arrives safely at the next challenge.
      • -5 points is a perfect score
  • During challenges (other than the Hauling Challenge) it may be removed

I maintain the right to adjust any rule/point penalty or bonus/challenge/class as I see fit to work in any given situation. This is supposed to be a friendly get together. I am planning lots of work for everyone to come together and have a good time so please don't ruin peoples fun by trying to be a rules lawyer or a poor sport (not that this has happened in our get together's before- I'm just saying)

Dornwood park is located in a residential neighborhood. I strongly recommend locking up your belongings while we are out on the trails.

This is a couple months away so fire away your questions.

Dee & Mee Hobbies in Topeka has offered some sponsorship. I will let everyone know how that turns out. Please go check out their facebook page if you get a chance.

Still no one for the 1.5 class? I find that 1.5s here offer a unique challenge. Much of the area won't be difficult at all for 2.2s. 1.9s are a great time but I always have a memorable time when I throw the 1.5s on the Trailfinder or the dingo.

Most of what we will be doing is going to be on dirt. Two portions of where I plan to run us will be mostly rock. There is one spot where you might get axle high in water. It depends on the water level of the stream.

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

There are going to be lots of gates and for the sake of expediency those participating will need to score themselves. Please be honest.

This sounds amazing! Though, having read all of that I'm a bit confused... I'm always the last one to understand events, but that won't stop me from trying!

I can't say for sure if I'll be there or not (It's still to0 far away to tell), but I'll try my ass off to make it!

Docwolf 05-23-2013 06:31 PM

Pending any baby related stuff I will be there

Think of it as a long trail run with a few smaller competition areas. Additionally, you will have a small object to carry on your truck as you go from one area to another.

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

And we all know Greg is familiar with carrying a small object!:flipoff:

I will have my wraith with blazer body on just for this event but don't expect me to finish well!! What are you thinking for the over sized 2.2(5.75)?

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

Large 2.2 tires would be in the 2.2 class since there isn't a larger class than that. I put the blurb in there so that someone with big 1.5s wouldn't have a huge advantage over someone running a scale 36" tire in the 1.5 class, and the same with regard to big 1.9s. A great big tire isn't going to help you that much here. It will in certain areas but not everywhere. Maneuverability will be more helpful in some situations.

Still waiting to see when we go on vacation. If it doesn't conflict I will be at this event . You have driven a ton of miles supporting us. I want to make your event.

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

I just got back from my WV trip for work so I'll be able to head over to the spot and start putting in some effort as time allows. I meet with the park manager on my day off Tuesday to go over my route to make sure it isn't going to meddle with anything the bike guys have set up. I'm planning to let him goof off with a Dingo if he is up for wheeling while working.

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

Well the meeting went well. I walked the course with the guy and all is good with one small exception. The impossible rock pile is gone. It has been removed from its previous spot and is not going to return. I will edit the top post to reflect this.

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

So did the park ranger run your dingo? And as far as the impossible rock pile I was hoping to see some people attempt it

Topekacrawls 06-12-2013 07:48 AM

Re: TORRCC Challenge- Aug 4, Topeka

I am sad the pile isn't there too. The guy from the county didn't run the dingo :(
