For those that were out last time, this will be a whole new area. From the road to north of the house. Do the Earth over lay on Google maps to get a better idea. I am hoping the land owner burns it before this event but I doubt it will be done. There is a limestone pile, in the past it was too treacherous, always worth a try though.

I won't be there as we are going to the G6 in St. LOUIS on April 12 and April 26 has been the annual RRR weekend. This would have been RRR3. So I'll pass. BS

Re: Turkey Creek ORV Camp and Crawl

Made it up to Beloit and spent Saturday afternoon scouting more area. We spent roughly 4 hours walking the creek upto the Solomon River and back to our starting point, through all of that we were never more than 1/4 mile from the house/camp area. We did note that wheel speed and deep lug tires are the key here. Lots of loose creek bank, un-maintained ground cover, and some mud. The closer we got to the River the more Springs we saw, so the mud is an issue even it there is no rain. I am going to work up a map showing out possible treks, i doubt we run all of it though. There is a lot of limestone in the area so there are some nice deposits in the Creek bed, but the majority of the runs will be dirty hill climbs.

Dad nearly smoked his brand new H&H ESC, rolled the Wraith straight into the only water hole for 60 feet. We got it pulled and taken back to the house, wrapped it up in an old glove and threw it in the dryer on low heat for 80 minutes. Damn thing works like nothing happened, all I can figure is that the water was so stale and nasty that its conductivity was all but gone. Very lucky and dad is now more serious about a W/P unit. This was supposed to be a W/P but they sent the wrong one and he already had it installed before we realized it. He elected to just get store credit for the difference, wishes he had done the return though lol.

Bronc is running great but I need to get it tore down and oiled, getting pretty squeaky. Might see is the wife will let me get a new 27t H&H trailmaster sport before then.

The area looks really good for a nice trail run. I will need to finish up a truck that is better suited for the wet conditions then it seems, but not a issue i hope. Probably will just make sure the rx, esc, and misc electronics get a dip or sprayed down good. Looking forward to this deal.

Hey Adam, have you thought about a dedicated photog like last time? I think maybe this time there might be enough people to pitch in and maybe pay a little bit to have pics taken to remember the fun. This way no one has to stop playing to take pics. Just an idea and I'm not sure if it's to short of notice or not either.

Docwolf 03-28-2014 04:20 AM

I have kinda given up on that plan. We never really got organized enough to form a proper relationship with anyone. Now if anyone knows a hobby photographer who would want to follow us around, they are welcomed to join.

Adam, is there a way to get some good detailed direction for the Turkey Creek event. That way Id be able to drive to Beloit and find the area where its held easier. Just wondered that this morning.

Re: Turkey Creek ORV Camp and Crawl

Getting to Beloit is pretty straight forward. No matter what direction you are coming from, you either need to get on Hwy 14 (north/south) or Hwy 24 (east/west). Beloit is at the intersection of these two highways.

From the center of Beloit (Main st. and Hwy 14) you will go West on Main st.

On the west edge of town you will cross a set of rail road tracks, my parents place is roughly 6 miles from these tracks. (depends on which emergency worker you are asking and how worked up they are.)

You will stay on the same road (though it will change names for some reason) and you will continue to travel west-ward and you will stay on the Pavement for most of the drive.

you will:
cross a bridge (Solomon River)
go through a set of "S" curves that run right up along the river (Again, Solomon)
Go through one 90 degree left turn (don't go right, it is a privet drive)
Go through one 90 degree right turn (stay on pavement)
Climb a large hill out the valley
pass through a small holler
then...

The road will level out with a small hill ahead of you, as you crest this hill you will see a valley open up. The pavement will curve 90 degrees to the right, you will not stay on the pavement form this point.

There is Gravel road that will continue west down into the valley, take the gravel. (be mindful of the large rocks at the transition)

As you come on to the gravel and start down into the valley, look to your right. You will see a house and Garage about 1/4 mile off the road you are on, the driveway is at the bottom of the hill. That is my Parents place and will be our camp site.

Pretty much everything in this valley is available for us to access, Proper foot ware and jeans are suggested.

If you plan to come up 14, there is an alternate route that will take you around Beloit. Hit me up if you want these directions, I figure most people will come in on Hwy 24.

My family and I will be going up Thursday night, you are welcomed to follow us up that night, but i assume most will be up Friday night.
