!!! The super shafty back yard basher !!! all right folks, i've been wanting to build me a monster truck, bash around kind of rig for a while now. so after talking to rick he said he may have something i would be interested in. after some back and forth i finally got my hands on this prototype chassis from www.supershafty.com and boy was i impresses in the quality of this outfit! i plan on taking a lot of pics and asking the "old pro's" :ror: for advice since i have never built anything like this before. photo bucket is acting up right now, pic's to come soon. |
now rick told me in advance that the chassis did not have any upper link mount holes drilled http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0211.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0212.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0214.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0215.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0224.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0223.jpg |
the build parts yep i've never used revo shafts before, and except for that little e-clip i like em! that little s.o.b. popped out of my hands and i thought i would never find it! http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0216.jpg shocks http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0217.jpg beefy links! http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0219.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0218.jpg |
seeing this stout axle come together never gets old http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0202.jpg now i plan on running two short sides and here is a couple videos from www.supershafty.com that will show some of the assemble of the axles. first is the straight axle tube adapters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlNAL2tclUs and here is a video on cutting down the axles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qWuuSVe-7E now im not going 2.2 on this rig but this is good info when cutting. first pic shows where i had to cut http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0203.jpg now after i made this cut and got everything cleaned up i noticed that the hub carriers fit a lot tighter in the cut side so i had to do a little sanding on the hub carrier's to get them to fit, after that it's good to go. http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0204.jpg |
rear axle all buttoned up! these link mounts that rick is offering sure is gonna make my life a lot easier! http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0205.jpg |
i had picked up some axial wheels and some rc4wd x-locks a while back in the for sale section that will be just what im needing for this build. http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0208.jpg |
axle pics |
i still need to take the front axle apart and put the shark fin on and mount the servo mount. but that's all i got done so far. here are a few pics of what the rig will look like once it's done...i hope:ror: http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0220.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0221.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0222.jpg |
DROOL. V84x4 did a fine job on this one!!! that chassis looks awesome. this almost looks like a KOH chassis!!! it could also be worked into a foff as well. whats wheelbase gonna be on your rig? |

I can not take credit for this Chassis rather the design & concept comes from SnoopMaxx back in 2008!! I was browsing threw hundreds of threads one day when i came across this: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...t=85030&page=5 I Thought that this design would be perfect for a BYB, so i contacted SnoopMaxx to see if he would share his drawing to test with and possibly go to production with it and he was more then happy to allow for this... Thanks SnoopMaxx "thumbsup" After some tweaking & reworking I had the Protype, that Buggy has now....... Great work Buggy......"thumbsup" Chassis is sized for 14" to 18" wheelbase I agree with you Buggy on "the shorter the better" We will have to wait and see What buggy thinks as he builds and adds his personal touches to this chassis, but i beleive that this chassis will be 1 of 4 other chassis that SuperShafty.com will be selling soon ;-) Regards V8 |
looks to be another great build buggy"thumbsup" i have found that these aluminum revo ends work great on the twin force pinion if you dont wont to drill them out. http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...coupler&cat=33 http://www.rc-monster.com/prodimages...pler_small.jpg |
Looks sweet ! I think I know what my next project is !! Great job buggy....and Rick, more goodness as usual. |
that looks awesome,,nice work.... |

That chassis came out nice!!!!!! |
Wow Gabe that thing is gonna be a beast. Did that belly pan come off a D8 Cat:shock: Chassis looks really good Rick(via Snoopmax) |
got some rear 4-link work done, http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0231.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0232.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0233.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0234.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0235.jpg man i tell you what these axle clamps are nice! |
that thing is looking great man!!! it will be one heck of a trail/crawl/basher. totally awesome. how long are the links? will the front have the same length? |

looking good. but just a heads up, i have found that the rear shark fin works the screws loose on my super scaler. hopefully being very light you wont have this problem. |
Thanks for the heads up"thumbsup". Im thinking about drilling them all the way through and putting nuts on them. |
ok guys i finally got a roller! http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0241.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0245.jpg now this steering fought me a little and the original plan was to go with bta steering, but after messing around with it a bit i decided against it. now for the servo mount, i got a servo mount plate from rick and the way i had my stuff mounted it just wasn't going to work. so after some digging i found some of the tail boom servo mounts i was pondering using at one time and it just seemed to be a perfect fit. all it took was a little trimming on 3 of the molded gussets on the center chunk. http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0242.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0243.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0244.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0246.jpg here is a shot i got from under the skid looking at how i rotated the rear link mounts for my perfect fit. http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0247.jpg lots of good mounting holes for shocks http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0249.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0250.jpg and one from the side http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0251.jpg i'll just tell you guys, i've never built a bigger crawler than a 2.2 before and im diggin it! |
The front castor is way off Morten PS cool build "thumbsup" |
yep, i just got it rolling tonight. i usually shoot for around 3 to 5 degrees of negative caster"thumbsup". with it as a roller now the fine tuning will come shortly. |
and by the way, cool chassis design "thumbsup" |
Man........ This build is coming together nice "thumbsup" So what did your WB come out to? I like the Steering setup........ It just gave me an idea for a lower link mount with a servo mount incorporated into it "thumbsup" Great Job Buggy V8 |

i think i may know what your talking about on that mount, ;-) |
that looks awesome man!!! great job! Rich. my mind probably imagined the same servo mount when i saw those pics too. an integrated mount might be kinda sweet! cant wait to se it running. what are you gonna power it with? |
I have a hh 10t puller that I will be using. I remember seeing the videos of reflection's super using a 10t and it was impressive. |
got a serious question... what is the thickness of the slum frame. i was posting this on another forum i help moderate for some buddies of mine who love nothing but bashing, and they were concerned it might be too thin for serious high speed bashing. they suggested that anything less than 3mm is too thin. a: what do you think? b: what is the thickness? also had this comment from a friend online who has bashed more things than i can count. anything with a "cab" like that is prone to getting tweaked in a wreck, seen alot of those redcat trucks and guys just barely flipping and they bend all to crap granted im sure their aluminum is integy quality but even savage guys will remember the early days before they beefed the tvps up...just sayin lol Also I see a weak area right at the rear side windows for sure want more tubes there. |

I had a hole marked there but it was not drilled on this chassis http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...IMAG0251_1.jpg I also planed to use lexan side covers and an alloy roof and bonnet Morten |
bonnet huh? i take it you ride a lift to the top floor too :) looks good man. those wholes will work out well! |
Quote:
LOL Yeah I do mate :lmao: Oh and bonnet is the hood :ror: Morten |
Well........ This chassis is just the proto type All holes will come on the Production chassis And the chassis will be available in 1/8 scale & 1/10 scale There are supposed to be 2 more cross members for support But tell your friends to look for buggy's video because I have a feeling He's gonna beat on this thing pretty good   (I hope) I wont tell you any more cuz (TOP SECRETE) This is buggy's build thread ;-) But wait till you see the finished product.........:flipoff: V8 |
What would i have to pay to get one of these chassis? even if it dont have all the holes or anything else to go along with the axles im gettign from you. |

b:http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0254.jpg and this is why i think it will be fine http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0257.jpg this is the bottom of my M&M fab buggy. that's just the stock axial tvp's, and it weighs 10 pounds, and i beat the hell out of it with my t8 combo, and this all the damage i have ever done to it and it holds up fine http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0260.jpg http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/v...d/IMAG0259.jpg |

and to be completely honest i don't see the need for the extra cross member at the bottom of the b-pillar. i may have to eat my words and put one there but for right now i aint worried about it. it will have some lexan panels ;-), be patient guys, don't put the cart before the horse:) |
