Default TF lunch box locker (w/Version 2.0)

Decided to try this before dumping coin on a spool. Have not yet run it, but have no reason to believe that it won't work.

Started out with this

Then drilled a 1/4" hole in the center and cut out slots for the shaft cup pins (sorry it's fuzzy)

Slide it into the diff housing like so

Then throw it together, tah dah.

Will give updates after I get my #41 bit to drill out my new pinions .

It's a nylon type stuff I scavenged from work. It's a bushing used in a pull scraper ejector gate. Earth mover. Got tons of the stuff. I've made a lot of my parts from this stuff. Really durable. Dosn't take die real well though.

The block measures 23mm X 18.5mm X 14mm w/ a 1/4" hole and an exacto knife to cut out the grooves.

My homemade spool is from a similar idea, just i used a piece of alu and spent some more time filing everything by hand.
It works, those pics are two years old now and never had a problem with it.

NICE! I thought about usuing something else too but this stuff was most importantly free and it was not a rigid and would absort some shaft shock. Ran it the other night in the rain and this thing was amazing before now it's really sick. Need to work on the rear steer now.

A word of caution thou, with a spool the swingshafts in the axle are having a hard time on hard surfaces with a lot of grip, and this is expecially true if you also have a very torquey motor.
Stock shafts will twist and possibly snap, depending again on torque and traction.
My best advice is to buy some beefy larger shafts, like the ones RCAlloy makes, which can survive to a lot more stress. At least for the rear axle.
Just to give you a visual example of what am I saying, these are my RCAlloy swingshafts, which are just barely twisted now after about two years of use, and in the last year with a BL setup.

Yah that was going to be my next investment since didn't spend anything on the lockers. We're on the same page spider, you and me. Thanks.

Broke it. Well not really but it is not holding like it was. The grooves that hold the cross pins have striped enough that it slips. Kinda like a limited slip right now. Need some alluminum like spider.

Broke the whole shabang this weekend. The nylon didn't hold up and when this happens you loose ALL drive of course. So there is going to be some aluminum reinforcement added. The nylon block is going to get cut down and used as a tensioner inside.Pics later, just an update. If there is still anyone on this board.

Yah I've looked at them all and that is $50 more than I have invested in this portion of the project. Thanks though, If this dosn't hold up I'm gonna have to invest.

Yeah, a Maximizer locker is nothing more than the alu block I filed myself, just the latter costed me nothing more than the time spent filing!
Bart go ahead and try your nylon central portion with alu side blocks to fill all the voids in the case, I feel that could be the right recipe for positive traction and less strain on the shafts.

Default Version 2.0

Well here is what happened

So, I cut some new nylon blocks smaller than the last to allow room for the 1/8" alum. I cut the alum to size, drilled a 1/4" hole and cut in the pin grooves, so far it works great.

Sandwich it all together an install.

Wow, it really mangled that block. After seeing that, do you think those plates will hold up?

Well I sure hope so the next step is a spool if it dosn't. My axles sure are taking a beating too. Does anyone beside RC Alloys make shafts. $80 seems a little steep. They still twist up after looking at spiders.
