| Large Scale SuperShafty Sand Drag Demo For ECC!
Been talking with Rick and looking at all the different ways you could build the TF axles. I have always wanted a large scale Sand Drag Car or FOFF. With all the upgrades Rick has available for these axles, I have no doubts I can build it bullet proof, it will need it to be(see Parts list below!) So Rick and I struck a deal, I am going to build one to Demo @ ECC 2012!! This thing is going to be sick!! Parts List So far: Stock width TF axle tubes RC4WD High Steerangle knuckles Kyosho Helical Cut Gears SS Spool SS Servo Mount SS Straight Straight Axle Lock Outs SS Shark Fin Upper Link Mounts SS Axle Lower Link/Shock Mounts Ofna Short CVD For the Front Ofna Long CVD for the Front New Era Titainum Dogbones for the Rear Stock Stub Axles For the Rear Titanium Links on Kyosho Rod Ends MIP Revo Drive Shafts Summit Transmission with Robinson Racing Slipper Hitec 645 Shifting Servo Hitec 7950 or 5955 Metal Gear Steering Servo Tekin T8 Motor and ECS combo Maybe 3S 2500mAh Lipos Prototype SS Chassis Kyosho Velvet Shocks with SS shock cap mod Stainless Screw Kit Krawler Koncepts Custom Skinz Futaba 4PL Maxx Size Paddle Tires HPI Wheels Modified Kyosho Wheelie Bar with skids instead of wheels This list may change slightly but thats it in a nutshell. totally awesome. havent seen you in the TF threads before, so that must mean Ricks stuff has been working out there. pulling guys over to this side of the FORCE. cant wait to see this build man. if this is a super size, i would go straight to 4-6 cells on a t8 |

Yes sir! Years ago the TF stuff did not seem to have this kind of support, now that Rick has opened SuperShafty.com I feel totally confident I could build something that will stand my style of trigger yanking. And I have not been this amped about a build in a long time. Just what I needed to get back into the 'cave and garage burnin up parts. I am truely inspired Thanx Rick! |

I would suggest making a solid straight axle for the rear in order to get rid of the stock (and weak in my opinion) diff outputs and/or stub axles. For example, I'm using a 8mm high carbon stainless axle for my 2.2 build.

No real update, been busy. But,,,, I have been thinking about paddles tires alot and think I have them narrowed down to 40 series paddles, had my local hobby shop order me a set of the Baja 5t rear paddles but thinking those might be too tall and out of scale. I saw the pics of the "Sand Hamma" paddles and liked the width but the paddles seem to short for me. I have been looking at several now my head hurts, think I will get the chassis and axles mocked up then look again. Oh and the spools Rick makes for the TF are super nice!! Fit and finish are top shelf! In fact everything he has to offer are some of the nicest products on the market!! Buy his entire inventory you wont be disappointed!! |

yeah, the jury is still out on those Losi paddles. I had bought them a while back, and really only because they were 30 shipped, NIP, on ebay. I had been looking at these Pro Lines Comparing to the Losi's, I'm not sure which one is more aggressive. The 3.2 maxx sized Panthers look like they'd do some damage... They have these new T965 1/8 buggy paddles, too, which seem to be skinnier. Last edited by Cordwood; 03-02-2012 at 08:26 AM. |

Back in the day...When I could afford to have toys... I found that on my sand rail that bigger tires were not better. I also had the paddles trimed off alot of my tires so I only had every 3rd one. This gave you more float and less dig so when you get in the soft sand and tried to move you go forward insted of down into the sand. With enough wheel speed you dont really need alot of traction and to much just breaks stuff. I think something like 30% of your power in a 1:1 is lost when you go from dirt to sand. The type of paddle you run also depends on what kind of sand, fine sand requires alot more float less traction, corse sand you can get away with more traction and less float. All of it depends on what sand you are running on. I do know that it makes alot of difference in 1:1, not sure on scale. JUST my 2cents hope it helped |

It does help thank you. So the t8 on 4-6s will be the ticket with shorter paddles on loamy sand but firmer dirt/sand will need more aggressive paddles. Thank guys, moving forward. |

I like these and would love to give them a try. TowerHobbies.com | 4412 HPI Racing Sand Thrower Tire D Compound 2.2" (2) Thought about 4 of them if I go FOFF. Just waiting on Rick's new chassis. Have the AX-10 axles with beef tubes and od/ud gears, a trans with metal gears and a hard locker, a 6.5t Novak motor for propulsion, and two 2s 6500 mah battery packs for juice and run time. Just need some wheels, and a few other treats to make it good to go. Might pull the castle SCT speedo out of the sporty rig to see if the 6.5 will toast it. But that is down the road. LOL.. |
