| And so it begins... sneak peek (finished pics!!)
Finally got off my butt and started my build, nothing earth shatterig to report so far, just doing lots of measuring and figuring out of things... Just thought I'd give you a look at the chassis.... BIG is the word. 26" nose to tail, and will be even longer with the body on Made from 1/4" alloy, custom made by STANG KILLA. That man does stella work, its flawless. Have a whole bunch of Supershafty bits in a box, which *should* make for bomb proof axles. Going to use the lathe at my girlfriends Dads house at the weekend to machine up some links, so hopefully have more report soon. Havent decided on a name for it yet, but its gonna be big, bad and packed full of power WB will be 18" BTW. Last edited by simon170; 05-20-2013 at 05:26 PM. |

Awesome. I have two 1/6 F350's on my to-do list. Look forward to some updates. That chassis looks really nice.

Bart: Rick: cheers mate! Will be using a new Summit 2 speed (just putting that together now) Driveshaft wise I don't know, was considering big Punishers, but not sure they will take the strain...?? |

punushers are some huge shafts, but they are relly heavy too, if you are using them for speed i would try something else, its a lot of rotating mass, so i would stick to something skinny if you could.

Truggy shafts are pretty long. I use RC8T shafts in my Foff. If you need some measurements let me no.

A little update... Finished building up the axles finally, after having trouble getting the gear mesh correct, but seem to have it sorted now. Both have SuperShafty spools and the center link with offset plate. Very impressed with the quality of these. Used Ofna 8mm CVD's on Ricks recommendation, as he said they were the strongest. They certainly seem beefy! Theres a bit of side to side play with the hex's installed on the shafts, thinking space it out with washers between the outer wheel bearing and hex's? Tried the chassis from STANG KILLER in the body, fits like a glove. This guys rocks. Went over to my girlfriends parents house to machine up the links. I wanted to go OTT for these to keep an oversized look so bought 10mm alloy rod and Traxxas rod ends. Luckily for me Sarah's (my girlfriend) Dad is an old skool engineer with lathes and mills and every other freakin tool you could ever want in his workshop I did plan to do the work myself, but Dave took over the maching as we were in a rush (dinner was calling) and he could do it alot quicker than I could. While Dave got busy cutting, drilling and tapping, I... cut the heads off some bolts for the studs... v exciting.... not. That kept me busy for all of 5 mins, so I put the Summit 2-speed together... We decided they looked a little industrial like this... So back to the lathe... Much nicer... Finished and off to dinner! Just to give you a sense of scale, heres one of the finished links with a 6" long, 6mm diameter link from my WK. Got beef? Will be bolting them on in a little bit, to see if they fit and if I can measure worth a damn Hope I'm not waffling on too much.... |

I actually like to "Back Space" them put the shims (Spacers) on the out side of the inside bearing Then you will gain a little more of the Dog Bone end making better connection to the Spool Shafts I use these: MUST Check out at rcmart.com ONLY : 3Racing (#3RAC-SW0 Stainless Steel 8mm Shim Spacer OR HERE: 8mm Shim Spacer 0.1/0.2/0.3mm Thickness 10pcs Each - 3Racing 3RAC-SW08 3Racing RC Car Upgrade parts:Tamiya,Kyosho,HPI,Team Associated Losi Magic Xray,Hot Bodies,Traxxas,AXIAL,Serpent,ACME,Mugen Skeiki Looking great Simon170 Best Regards Rick Last edited by v84x4; 04-23-2012 at 05:08 PM. | |

Cordwood: I'd be in deep trouble without Rick! lol Not sure on four wheel steer yet, did think about it, will most likely try 2 wheel first and if the turning circle can be measured in orbits of the sun I'll make it 4 wheel. Kinda hoping I won't need 4 wheel steer, as the servos needed to turn this thing are going to be pricey!

i like to space the back as well, keep the pin as close to the bear as possible, and it seats the dob bone end of the cvd in the spool cup a little more. some rigs have about a 1/16" of shims. i buy them by the bag full so i never run out!

8"? Between the body and tire, or axle to chassis. For something this size, probably |
