| Twin Force axle disassembled and mounting platform with pics
I was slightly misleading in some of the info about the axles. I decided to take them apart and inspect them, take some measurments and take some pics. Sorry The axle width out of the box is approx 30 cm or 11 13/16" You still can change the width. The easiest way to shorten the axle is to cut 3 cm's off the long side center section and buy another short dog bone. The axle tubes are the same length. http://www.rcpics.net/img/35185 Another option is to buy two short side center sections and bolt them together. Check the pinion bearing fit in the case halves. It may require you to shave down the halves just a hair. The R&P mesh is good. http://www.msnusers.com/34hh2td7fm3o...ount%20003.jpg IMHO I would cut down the long center section. The long half has a lip that fits in the short half. The length from wheel mount surface to WMS will be approx 27 cm or 10 5/8" http://www.rcpics.net/img/35187 To do the long version its more tricky. Their are 2 ways. It is possible to use 2 long dogbones and put the axle together. The problem is that The axle tube on the short side does not slide in to the center section far enough because of the length of the longdogbone. http://www.rcpics.net/img/35190 It may be possible to epoxy the link mount to the short side center section or cut a piece of 3cm plastic tubing and epoxy that to the short side making up the difference in length. The other possibility is to use 2 long center sections. Cut the lips off the mounting surface. That will allow the surfaces to mate together . Grind off the ends of the screw bosses on both halves. That will allow you to put bolts through it so you can bolt the halves together. Be sure to check the fit around the pinion bearings. There is a shim on the inside for R&P mesh. You may need to add or subtract. http://www.rcpics.net/img/35186 The wide axle length is approx 33 cm or 13" from WMS to WMS To bolt the suspension on the axle, use the stock link arms. Cut the arm off and use the tube. http://www.rcpics.net/img/35188 http://www.rcpics.net/img/35189 The tube slides over the axle. Now use the tabs to mount links, shocks or a platform to hold a comb of these things. The part is held on buy 2 screws that go through the axle tubes. That also allows you to rotate the axle. To keep the rear spindles from moving, I made a bracket out of angle. Then I shaped it. http://www.rcpics.net/img/35191 If you decide to make a platform here are some pics This is a piece of angle thet bolts to the tube and the platform http://www.rcpics.net/img/35192 This is the platform http://www.rcpics.net/img/35193 2 pieces of angle that mount to the center of the platform to mount 2 top center links http://www.rcpics.net/img/35193 Here are all the pieces http://www.rcpics.net/img/35194 More pics http://www.rcpics.net/img/35195 http://www.rcpics.net/img/35196 http://www.rcpics.net/img/35197 http://www.rcpics.net/img/35198 |

Thanks Trac95ker! I'm doing my links tonight, I'll try a platform like you did. Killer truck you have there, to. There don't seem to be a lot of mad/twin force trucks here... Thanks again, |

Looks pretty good. I was gonna do something simular but for some strange reason I wanted to try and get a set up that looked a little more scale. I made some tubes that would fit over the twins axle tube snug. Then drilled a whole for the 2 screws that hold both tubes together. I then made some link mounts from some 1/8" x 1" steel and welded them to the tubes I made. It was kinda a pain in the backside to make them but I'm pretty satisfied with the way they turned out. Heres a rough drawing of what I made. I've got a few pics taken but need to develope the film. Sorry guys no digi cam here |
