Default BILLYGOAT join's the rock force.

After lots of reading and learning from others triumphs and failures, i pulled the trigger and bought a rock force(thanks kalani). first i have to say that the kit is in true kyosho style. instrictions where very thorough and easy to follow once you figure out the pictograph code. its crazy how beefy this thing is. i wanted to start with the kit stock and then make small changes till i get it where i want it. it is fun stock but i feel like the high speed gears are neccesary as others have said already.for now i will be happy until the hsg set arives. so far the list looks like this.....

kyosho rock force kit
Vanquish Products DH 2.2 comp wheels with berg offset
mamba max
spektrum rx
35t motor with 78/26 gearing
3cell lipo or a123
rovers(these things flat hook up.)
stage killa comp body(to stay legal.)
dx3r
kyosho dig w/645mg

thanks everyone who has answered question and helped make this rig happen. (vanquish products, killjoyken, david from kyosho, and everyone else in the rock force therad.)

Looks like a good setup. How is the 645 doing for dig? Is it having any troubles when on a incline?

Are you using the 335 or 460 hex spacer on the VP DH's?

the 645 is ok . still getting the dig dialed in . it does require a little finesse to get it to disengage. think i will try a 7955 or 8711 and see if that does it . i am using the 335 hex spacers .

it was very straight forward. servo set up is a little tricky but not too bad.

Since I'm half chinese I'm not sure if I want to be part of the "Red Army".

John: Looks good. Don't worry, we'll all make this rig a Force to be reckoned with. Excuse the puns, I've been sick.

Are you running the stock foams with the Rovers? I mounted up a set on my RF but tried NWTT hybrid foams with a sliver of regular foam on the outside and had problems. I've gone back to the stock foams and moved my shocks inboard since the massive Rovers pulled my lower shock perches off and gave me an unsprung droop that killed my last test session.

I'm also having issues getting in and out of dig. I'm running a 200oz Airtronics but it won't pull it out of dig with any load on the wheels. And with the extra play from the HS gears plus the play in the dogbones it sometimes takes a full revolution of the wheel to engage. I'm not sure how to fix this yet. Maybe we need to start a thread about dig tuning.

thanks ken, i am running the stock foams for starters. i have read many tips to these tires but i like to get an opinion of my own also so stock always comes first. as far as the dig tuning thread, i think its a great idea. im going to do some playing around with it today . . im going to take the rear axle apart and see if i can gently massage the lockout plate to relieve some of those sharp edges.and then on to tuning.. i am going to try an torquier servo today as well and seeif that helps . i think it might be the play in the plastic arm . i think kyosho would have done better making the shift arm from metal. this may be the achilles heel. come on aftermarket folks, make a metal shift arm for the dig please .

you can drive it anytime. the motor esc combo seems good but slower than i would like . high speed gears will help that.

thanks dude. did i see yours for sale?

so i have put 3 packs through it (2 3s a123 and 14s a123.)and so far i like it alot . mods so far include ....
I drilled a 1/16 hole in the shock pistons. with 25w shock oil. seems to be perfect for my driving style.
I added 3 1/16 " spacer on the rear lower links .wheelbase is right at 12 3/8"
i am running the Vanquish dh 2.2 pro-comp with 4 weights in front and 2 in back.and the 356 hex spacers . it gives me 10 7/8 width. i would like it to get to around 10 to 10 1/2 . i have some ideas so keep checking back.

tires seem good but i think it need some different foam. they keep getting better the more i use them.

so on to the dig... well at first it seemed like i would need tons of torque to engage and disengage it but the more i use it the more i understand that its not the same dig i have been using. shifts from 4x4 to ft wheel drive fairly easily . i believe it will get better as it breaks in. from neutral to lock is easy but from lock to neutral it is a little sticky. because when you dig it binds the rear axle i found that a little wiggle of the front servo gets thing moving most of the time. on an uphill i as others had to just give the throttle a touch or reverse. this is my only real complaint so far . i am not sure if a metal shift fork will hep but the less flexible material seems in order. i am back to the 645. i didnt see enough improvment to warrent a $100 servo. i used non silicone fuel tube instead of springs and set the endpoints on my 3rd channel and i think for now shes good to go. i will give it 10-15 packs to see how well it loosens up.

in conclusion... i think this rig has tons of potential. and i will soon join others in aftermarket chassis and build up. but for now i think stock is a great start.

well she made it to her first comp. installed a 5t cobalt puller and thing went i think well for the first time out . wheel speed was a little slower than i needed. couldnt really get much dig out of it with the wheelspeed . motor didnt heat up much. pullers run a little hot but,i could still hold my finger on it for a 2 count. mamba max was flawless. i did the dk link mod on the rear . much less axle steer. rig felt and drove very solidly and predictablly. i think a little faster movement in the suspension. i finished 2 of three courses and feel that this rig still has lots of potential with only a few small mods . i didnt want to think the high speed gears are necessary but i will have to wait and see. my overall opinion is still very high and i have big hopes for this rig. so dont go selling your rock force ...youll be buying another one if you do. AWESOME! Glad to hear you liked it. Sounds like you are a candidate for the HS gears too.

im taking her out for the second comp. i put a 4600kv castle brushless in it with a 78/23 spur pinion. great wheelspeed on 3s a123. should work till i get my hsg. stormer shipped them today so once they arive i will be putting the 35t back in to start the motor gearing testing all over again. looks like im the only one reg.in the 2009 midwest indoors with a rock force . i hope i can drive it well enough to do this awesome rig justice. ill let you all know how it goes tomorrow night.
