If you look at my build thread I am (currently) using the Mamba Max with a 55T Integy motor.

For gearing I am using the stock spur with a 23T pinion and the High Speed gearsets.

I am waiting on some other motors to test with this setup and will be reporting back!

well ... how is the wheel speed compare to a AX-10 with the novak system?

i've looked online and the high speed gears are back ordered everywhere.
if i pull the trigger and get a RF, where do i find the gears and the dig set up?

I tried a couple of things to get the right wheelspeed with the right motor.

First, I used a 55T Motor and put in some faster gears with a different spur/pinion combo:

The wheelspeed was good but anytime the car gets stuck between to rocks I had a big loss of power. It seems, that the 55turns motor do not have enough watt´s to get through the binding of the wormdrive, that raises when there are loads on it.

I then returned to the original gearing and threw in a silver can motor (in black...), I think this one has 23 Turns:

I was surprised how well that worked, the rockforce moved in the speed I wanted and has enough power to get out of the trickiest situations. Also, I had runtimes for over an hour with my racing pack.

For me, I will stick to the silver-can and the original gearing.

I am running a Novak Rooster Crawler Brushed ESC with a 55t Integy Lathe motor, high speed gears, and the stock motor gear setup and the performance is great for me right now.

Perhaps with more wheel time under my belt with the RockForce I will be trying something else but for now this is a good combo.

wasnt the silver can motor of yours what kyosho recomends for this rig, or somewhere close to specified specs ? looks like we are over anticipating the worm drive and jumping the fence with higher turn motors, i am really hot to get my HS gears and maybe go basic like my original plan, reason why i chose a esc that can run brushed/ brushless.

you mentioned your good with your set-up, i am trying to point out how maybe the lower turn motors may be the ticket for the RF besides the high speed gears, proper spur and pinion, forgot to thank you for the help with regards to my querry on gearing, ordered mine based on that.

Hmm, I'm using a silver can motor & a Futaba CR230 esc & just switched over to a Tamiya esc of similar spec (actually, the case also looks similar just different stickers !). I find this usable. My friend has a 55t & a higer spec HPI esc in his but I find that setup too slow.

Next, I want to put a BL outrunner with 1000kv (HH revolver) & a sidewinder in the rf but I'm waiting for my high speed gear to arrive. Hope this works out.

Regards,
Joe Ling
