Default Twin Force Transmission

Hello,

What is the smallest pinion that I can use on the motor ans still have it mesh with the stock spur gear, on a stock twin force transmission? Can it go all the way down to 9 tooth? Also, these are the regular 32 pitch gears, not the metric 32 pitch gears, right?

Thanks,
Andrew

Twin,no question. IMHO,you'll have alot stronger tranny. Are you just trying to gear down? You can very easily adapt a 72t Maxx spur on your Twin tranny. I'd say then you could go lower on your pinion. Theres also going with a GD600.

Thanks for all the replies. I have another question

-I am going to lock my twin force axles soon. In the front, should I try my 300,000 weight silicone oil first, or go ahead and lock it up?

Thanks again,
Andrew

Agreed, you'll end up tearing it apart and going solid anyway. Save yourself the trouble and lock it now.

What else you lack getting her done?

I've got mine back together but kindly waiting for my new batts cuz these old ones are killing me. I believe it partly why my runtimes are getting so short.

Plus I'm working on a top secret tire project. If all goes well,I believe it will be hard to beat this tire.

Thanks for the input! I'm currently in the process of cleaning everything. I still need to fabricate the 4-link/servo mounts, and figure out my link lengths.

Also, how do you get the mixed up JB Weld into the diff? With a popsicle stick or something? Also, do I put JB weld on the four bevel gears while they're installed in the case, close it again, and let it dry? Could I use epoxy putty?

Thanks,
Andrew

Yeah, just use anything you have lying around,I used a crappy old screwdriver. Fill it as full as you can get it,reinstall the ring gear and let it dry for a day or so.

Honestly,I've never tried that exact product. I used regular ol' thick CA glue to lock my sons diffs and they are still holding strong.

This stinks. I got the epoxy putty today, and put it in my front diff. After I finish tightening all the screws, I realized I forgot the bearings. I rushed to open it up, and got about half of it out. But I still cant get the gears out to put the bearing on the side with the diff case. Guess I have to fork over more money. Poo.

I've got some M.E.K. sitting in the diff case to try and dissolve the epoxy, or loosen it any way. Do you think it will work?

I plan to use the tranny out of my twin for my next crawler.. It just looks beefy and I love the chain.. but I am gonna have to ditch the mount and make my own.. I can mount the GD how I want with the stock layout.. Anybody have some pics how they mounted their GD on the twin tranny..?

How come you guys dont use clay to lock up a diff.. I been running clay in mine and its great.. Kinda softens up the shock and hasnt needed any work at all so far. I am expecting it to break down at some point but for now I am loving the ease of clay..

I DO know JB/glue is great (and easy) but I am just wondering why you choose to use it over clay..?

I personally just didn't think it would keep the diff locked. i got all the gears out by repeated soaking with M.E.K. What a mess. It worked good, though, and didn't soften up the plastic at all. I'll be sure to have the bearings and shims on properly this time

Honistly I didnt know it would hold up either.. and my truck is very light.. so it may break down faster in a heavy rig.. but its been working great...

That was Johnrobholmes design.. I was just intreged by the idea, and wanted in on it... I have not heard back from him if he wants help with producing them.. So he may be the person to ask.. If he dosnet want to play with it, I may do what i can.... It looks like a good set up. ( haveing the stength of the force axle, with the motor per axle opportunities).. Also if your at that point, whynot try a hybrid type axle, with high clearence and motor per axle...

Sorry. I just re-assembled the front axle, it almost seems like the pinion (HPI Savage) is hitting the diff case? It just doesn't feel very smooth. Any ideas?

How many shims do you have on the pinion? Are you running the factory aluminum ring gears or the steel? If your running the steel ring gear you don't have to shim them as tight as the aluminum gears cuz the teeth are ALOT stonger and can take a tiny bit of slack. Don't get me wrong, there needs to be a good gear mesh but if the pinions rubbing the diff, back it out just a hair. It should be smooooooooth. Coarse the straight cut gears will NEVER be as smooth as the helical cut gears, that and the stength is why I went with the helical cut gears .
