BYB by MJDerstine (with good video) ok guys, this is a first for me in the twin force thread. i actually have something called a roller. :lmao: anyway, i emailed our man Rick and got some advice on the BYB chassis. I ended up getting the larger of the two. Its a 14-15" wb chassis made from 1/8 delrin. he wanted some of my first thoughts on the build, and well, here they are. I got the box in about 3 days "thumbsup" I ordered a couple 100mm 3/8 rods for the standoffs, which he graciously cut for me :) also got a nice 3/8" chassis plate to mount the tanny on. he cut this for me as well, and its great. All i needed to do was drill and tap holes in the stand-offs and the chassis plate. the thing went together in about 3-4 hours. and it HUGE. for some reason i wasn't ready for how big the thing is when put together. I had some links made together for a super, but had to trim them down some to make it all work. it seems to about 17-18 WB right now, and that might be a bit long. the axles are two short sides, so its about 10.5" wide at the hubs. gears are 43/10 from an strr. tranny is HR axial with steel gears. maxx shafts and a killer 12v 530oz servo from MKS. stock TF shocks. and.... The stance is really good! Looks like you're at 17.5" WB. If anything the rear could be shortened maybe 1/2", tho then you might have to flip the hub carriers around to get a rake on the shocks. |
It has that, I painted my wheels white with the tires still on look. |

looks good, i like the tire and wheel choice. dont worry that white will wear off once you start thrashing on it. |
Looking Real good MJ  To remove the "White" residue I use Acetone http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cJwTmoJJx2...00/acetone.jpg After I cut-n-shut my tiers I wipe down the tires with this stuff Also good for removing tires off the wheels (Videos coming soon) Keep going !!! Cant wait to see video Regards Rick |
thanks for the advice man. i'l probably just leave the white til it wears off, not sure i want to get acetone near my glue. OOPS. anyone have any of these little buggers lyin around? Kyosho Chassis Joint Set [KYOMA113] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies |
got the tranny mounted. and used my nice mill end to bury the 3mm cap heads. :) i love how easy delrin mills in a drill press. also shortened the rear links 3/4" and the front a 1/4" its down to 17" even now. also started to mount the radio tray area. it REALLY stiffens that front end up! oh and i had to mount the stock bumper. it just looks good and i had to represent! http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3302.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3300.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3296.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3295.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3294.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3293.jpg |
This is the fastest build I have ever seen ;-) I love that Red CF Radio tray Where did you get that? |
Looks awesome MJ. The 17" WB looks sweet, IMO. If you wanted it shorter, looks like you could easily shorten the front and mount the upper shock ends on the rear chassis holes to maintain a shock rake angle. Your chassis pieces are on ebay. Kyosho Chassis Joint Set ~KYOMA113 | eBay |

You guys and your pizza cutters:roll: Looks great MJ"thumbsup" |
haha thanks man. just wanted to shave a little weight :) |
hey guys ive had some stuff going on in life lately, had to get a new car because of a fight with a tree, had surgery on my arm for some melanoma, and still cant use my left arm, and work has been nuts. but i got the radio tray mounted, and made a nice roof outta some 1/32 stainless, man its shiny. have some lexan coming soon too for side panels. then power plant will be ordered, pro just a MM and 14t puller on 3 cells. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3313.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3311.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3312.jpg |
Holly Crap....... That's lookin Sweet "thumbsup" You should make a stainless hood & side panels too Rick |
thanks man. that isn't a bad idea. i really like it too. i got a theme with my rigs though, gotta be some racing orange and flat black, bu i got enough for a hood still. so i tihnk i will start working that out. hood scoop would be sweet. |
sorry to here you got in a crash. hope your arm feels better soon the roof looks nice. going to have to take that idea and do it to my build. |
thanks joeyf. its copyrighted :) just kidding man, i'd like to see how you take this idea too. well made a little more progress, i have to really clean this up. first atempt at styrene. but its really easy to play with. i am goin to bolt this down with some tiny 1/16" button head to make it look semi scale. oh and it wont go on the roof... but needed somewhere to place it on the rig. got lots of sanding and some priming to do. then to the paint booth. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3314.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3315.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3316.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3317.jpg |
Looking good MJ! |
well got the lexan today, and got it all painted and mounted the elecs for testing. its got a dinky little stock ae speedo in it since i haven't gotten the replacement MM yet. but it runs now. on 2 cells. so its a bit sluggish. maybe 5mph total. but the servo is strong. oh went to the hardware store to get more SS for the hood and they were out! gotta get some online i guess. another oh. the shocks are way to stiff, they barley flex at all, so should i get some softer springs? which ones should i get? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3321.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3322.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...B/DSCN3323.jpg |
