Default MIP axle on rear only, any reason?

So the vehicle I picked up had the MIP Crawler drive shaft on the rear only.

Is this something more so needed on the rear?

There is usually more load on the rear shaft. Particularly on go fasts, cause the front end is rarely on the ground
