On the website of "rc4wd" it is mentioned:
  • Advanced internal spline
  • Industrial grade stainless steel
  • Extremely durable huge 12.5mm mainshaft diameter
  • Shaft Travel: compact 120mm, fully extended 150mm (30mm total travel)
  • Made to fit 5mm output shaft
  • Uni-Joint for super smooth operation
  • Engineered and manufactured by RC4WD USA
  • Direct fit, no modification needed
After my custom changes, now I have small point of rust I checked ... I took a magnet ... and it is not stainless steel ... then my question is where the stainless steel !

I've made in order to put a "layer of nickel matte" in order to solve this problem ... thank you rc4wd for this misinformation in your site

What parts did you check? the sliders?

There are SS types wich are magnetic so a magnet isn't very good for testing SS always

Strange indeed:-(

yes I took the chrome off ... this is not the problem ... but if I read what is mentioned on the site RC4WD ... it is well written "stainless steel" and in reality it is not "stainless steel"

SwissSteph,
absolutely beautiful metal work.

my guess is that RC4WD uses 400 series on their shafts, which of course is magnetic and will rust just "stain-less" than carbon steel. 300 series is non magnetic but it is not as strong as 400 series stainless. 400 series is the better choice for structural high stress components.

keep up the great work.

Thank you for this explanation, I did not know the difference. It would be very well that RC4WD explains this on their site, this would be a for them.

My English is not enough (unfortunately) good for them an email about it ... :-(

Some grades of SS are sum what magnetic. They will normal not rust unless they are connected to or in contact with mild steel. All SS if joined with the wrong welding rod (which doesn't not apply here) will rust. and salty environments do not help at all ether.

It may not be rust and just a light oxidation from how you cut/sanded the surface. I had some SS links and right where they scraped on rocks and got in some good contaminated water they oxidize bad. Nothing to ruin it though.
