1/6th Chevy Monster Truck

This project evolved so much that I thought I would update the main post with what it looks like currently.

Here are the most current specs and a photo with a video. Updated 08.26.09

- Junfac rod ends, 10-32 all thread sleeved with 1/2" OD Delrin
- X-factor Axles converted to 17mm hexes (From a Mammoth ST). Rear Axle is locked front axle has 10k oil. Custom Servo mount I designed and had laser cut out of 16ga steel.
- Ofna full offset rims (I want to change out to something nicer)
- Jumbo Kong tires (8.5" OD)
- E-maxx Trans converted to single speed
- Revo drive shafts (took about 4 complete shafts to make them long enough)

Electronic Specs

- MMM V3 ESC with CC BEC

Original thread starts here

The time has come in Ohio for snow to fly and land some of my RC cars in hibernation. I haven't had much shop time at all lately so I made it a point to free up a couple hours late last night (now I'm feeling that) because I wanted to put something together to run in the snow. Didn't really care what it looked like, doesn't have to be some super scale rig with great performance. I simply wanted to build something from what I have laying around that would be fun to run through some snow.

So here's what I slapped together. I'll be the first one to call this thing FUGLY!!!

Chassis was off an old 1/6th nylint built with clod axles. Shocks will need replaced with 1/8th scale buggy shocks QUICK. I already know these plastic ones will get destroyed in no time.

Here it is with the 1/6th nylint body sitting on it

Maybe I'll go monster truck with the Cherokee body?

Some size comparison which do it no justice at all

Thought I might get a little crazy with the electronics

Wheelbase needs stretched a bit to look better, rims are FULL offset so that's why the track is so wide. Axles are X-Factors I think and I bought some Mammoth ST stubs from ebay and converted the axles over 17mm. Ofna truggy rims with Jumbo Kongs. I have an E-maxx tranny for it. I'll probably built a new chassis and links now that I see how this one is setup. That way the ground clearance isn't so high and the links aren't at such a bad angle.

Sometime it's fun to just start something and see where it goes. I'm excited to see what this turns into. After it runs I might start some details to make it look better. I just want something fun in the snow :nice:

I think with some work and a new tire combo it could be close to some like this

lowdog 11-26-2008 12:35 PM

That looks like it will do awesome in the snow "thumbsup"

Made some new links to extend the wheelbase. These should hold up.

Your rear axle is upside down.

You plan on extending the chassis alitle or laying the shocks down?...Looks like a good start...GO with the Cherokee!!

NickRummy 12-22-2008 06:30 AM

It's sitting as a rolling chassis but I left my camera at the hobby shop sunday and they're closed today. I plan on making an extended chassis that will attach to the TXT plates. That way the shocks will be vertical. Just waiting on a body to make the top of the frame so it matches up nicely.

NickRummy 12-26-2008 06:39 AM

Got a body coming from R2J for this thing. It is a rolling chassis for now. I only mounted these shocks up just to get it standing on it's own. As soon as the body gets here I'll make some frame rails for the top of these plates and run shocks that are a lot more realistic. Links are still just threaded rod so I'll fine tune the wheelbase when the time comes.

Never thought of it really but yeh, basically a big version of your 1.9. I'm not really going for all out scale though. It'll have the TXT lower chassis. Probably spray it black or something. I just want something to RSO with. Set it on the crawling course and see what I can jump :D

Are you referring to project Big? I keep an eye on that one.
