I'll post up a pic tonight with size reference. This suckers huge though! To give you an idea, the light bar on top is almost as big as the MRC frame I'm just finishing up for Kevan

Default Christmas in May!!!

I got a few things in the mail the other day.

First I received a LARGE box in the mail from ecoli. All I have to say is " speechless ". The work on this thing is phenomenal. Well worth the wait. Having said that, I could not resist getting a few mock up shots to see what this thing is going to look like. The pictures that follow say everything else.

I also received a package from HH. The power-plant has arrived. Yes, I will be running both of them. I think they should have enough strength to move this beast. I am still working on a design for a custom trans, but we will have to wait on that.

Last the UPS man brought some heims. I will be using these for just the bottom links. Will use smaller ones for the top. I should have the links measured and fabed up within the next week.

Now on with the pic's!!!!!

What's the purpose (again?) of the frame not being symmetrical? I keep looking at this build and thought I read everything. I might have missed that one. Looks very strange to me.

That thing is f'n huge!!

I'm no expert on this, but the slope is for a couple of reasons at least:

1. Keeps the frame as small/light as possible. A good thing for rock racing/crawling, you don't want a really top heavy frame. As Kevan was telling me before, the driver is quite crammed into these rigs. Purpose built, and that purpose ain't comfort !

2. The angle helps with rollovers. More likely to keep rolling over and back onto the wheels with a smaller roof area.

I agree, when I first saw this style of frame I was like "wtf?", but it grows on you over time !

Default the frame looks a lot like the 1:1

bud the axles looks like it is bowed. I think it would be a better set up if you used IFS. They made those you know. Walker Evens did one with dyna trac, made from dana 60 center. Also camble is currently using one. Finding pic of walkers is going to be hard to find because he didn't run it a full season. I think that it was the coolest of the builds that I have seen. He is also quite the card to be around early in the week before the family shows up later in the week.

It is just the picture. The axle tube is square to the mounting plates. Also I don't have it tightened all the way up ( just for mock up ).

As far as running an independent front that is a completely different rig. This one is the 2008 KOH/ rock racer rig. The independent one is new for 2009. It will be run in the rock racing series this year along with other desert event's. It has already been run in a 250 mile race and may be in the 1000 mile run from Vegas to Reno some time in the future.

Below are the two rigs.

You are correct.

The drive train runs back to front and is positioned where the passenger is normally seated. Basically the right arm rest is the top of the trans/transfer. This keeps the weight low and the frame compact.

The angle in the roof allows for the rig to rollover easier and is also for clearance. The widest point of the rig is the window bar. Everything else angles inward from this point.

It all comes down to clearance.

Hey kevan, you know were gonna have to race when these are done
and yea I'll come to gilbert.

KOH ...IFS/3-Link
vs
Rock Racer ...4-link'd

1/6th should be a riot

Angled Roll cages do look a little but if you follow the form follows function way of thinking they are beautiful
I like to think of them as trying to pound a square peg into a round hole
.....they never fit, but if you can cut the corners off the square and make a smaller "hex" shape . It Fits
Angles also help in the tube structure to easily triangulate the chassis

havent had time or $ to work on this recently

Im in!!!! How about a scale KOH race. Remember this one won the 2008 KOH and took 2nd in the 2009 KOH with Casey Curry behind the wheel! Would also be cool to get JIA's rig involved as well. We will have to see how everything pan's out. I am in the same $ situation on this one so progress will be slow.
