Didn't get anything done fri nite other than a lil shopping, today the lil woman was at work so he got a lil more done. Don't know why he grabs the biggest tools he can find, but he did get the old axles and stuff cut off. And then got the hood and cowl off and cut into. He got his tranny in the mail today and is thinkin how big of a hole he should cut. But decides to wait for the rest of his drive train to arive. So he started on the roll bar, decided to go with 1/4" brake line. I think he made the main hoop a lil tall though. What a beautiful day, 93 degrees out here. So he figures he got enough done today and decided to take the dog up to the creek for a swim and then get cleaned up before the lil woman comes home from work. Hopes to get some more of the cage fabbed up tomorrow.

Welp got back and had a lil time to kill, so he found a 20yr old motor he had laying around 2 mount up to the AX-10 tranny and mounted it up and it fits nice. Then he chopped an inch off the roll bar and thinks that it'll work now. Hope to get more done on the cage tomorrow. |

Finally got some work done on the cage. Needs more work yet but it's coming along. Chopped a half inch off to lower it a lil more. I know it's not as nice as most of ya'lls but it's my first one. It could end up in the scrap pile yet. (not 100% happy with it) Have to see how it turns out when I'm finished adding the rest. Since the Willys was missing a steering wheel I started making one at work when I get some time between jobs. Started with a 5 gal bucket handle and wrapped it around a socket to get the shape and cut up a cotter pin for the spokes and a 4mm washer for the center. Found an antenna on a junk car at the shop that had a brass end on top for the steering shaft and grabbed a scrap piece of 3/16" brake line for the column. Got the wheel welded up with the mig at work today. Hope to get it cleaned up tomorrow and some more work on the cage when I get home.

Welp, Got some more work done to the steering wheel at work today. Made a bracket to attach it to the dash too. Think I'll have to add an extra support brace though. Got some more done to the cage when I got home too. I think a couple cross braces in the top, some grab handles, paint and I'll call it done. Then I can move on to figuring out how to make leaf springs. :-P |

Shop was empty today so Buster and I got some more done on the cage today. Guess all that's left is to weld on some mounting points, finish cleaning it up and add some paint. Buster can't wait to get this thing finished, can already feel the wind in his face. He likes his new steering wheel. She's coming along, slowly but surely. |

Buster says thanks buddy!! After studying the cage pics I see a few things I'd do differently but I think I'm gonna go with what I have for now. I think it'll hold up to what ever I throw at it. Here's the rest of what I have or on the way Axial AX10 Transmission (X2) Axial AX10 Locked axles traxxas XL5 waterproof ESC Integy 50S V10 Hand Wound Crawler Motor Futaba Hitec HS-55 servo (for steering wheel mod) Team Associated S2008 Metal Geared High Torque Steering Servo Haven't found a write up on a leaf sprung 1:6 Willys yet so that part's gonna take a lil while to figure out. As long as I get it done before my 1:1 clubs's forth of July parade I'll be happy. Still got alot of work to do but we're gettin there. |

Made a better hook for the winch at work today. It's made outta the left overs from the 5 gallon bucket handle I made the steering wheel out of. And it's Buster approved. After work Buster got busy working on the Willys. Started work on the rear cross member for the front of the rear leaf mounts. I gotta find him some better tools. Looks like the rear leafs are gonna be about 6". Guess I'll try to make them out of a leaf rake I bought and see how long they last. |
