To all Willys builders

I need your input. I'm in the process of building mine and currently researching the best tires for this rig. My first concern is the outer diameter of the tire as I don't want it to look too big. I used some stock Rock Lizards just to get an idea of how the size would look. If I'm not mistaken, I believe those tires are 5" OD. I think I like the height but wondering if 5.5" would look too big. Next thing is looks. I'm seeing alot of guys on this forum like the HB Rovers. But those are 5.5" and the tread looks a little to busy. Then the Cougars are 5" tall but don't know if the tread design would look good on the Willys rig. Another thing is, ofcourse, I want a good crwling tire. So what kind of tires would you guys recommend regarding height, looks, and crawling quality?

My next question is regarding the foam. Being that this is a heavier rig then what these tires are made for, would it be better to go with standard foam or stick with the memory foam?

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

if you are looking at 1/6th scale then a 5.5" tire is gonna equal a 33" 1:1,,,it also depends on how high you run the rig,,axle width,, overall width,,, how much tuck you have or want,,,but i've seen penty of cj's and willys running 31"- 33" tires,,,just depends on the whole picture

2.2 rock lox are a really good looking tire from rc4wd,,and they are sticky

since youre in a warmer climate the memory foams will be ok imo..mem's get hard in colder temps.

I'm waiting on some Wheely King axles. I want the ride height to be a little above the stock height only to keep my cg low. I've seen Zoso's rig in person and liked it, so somewhere similar to that.

Oh, another question I forgot to ask is what length shocks to get? Should I go with 100mm length or shorter?

Since most of us run droop, asuning to will to. The 100's will work. That is what I am going to run. I figure the longer the shock the more droop/flex you will have. I'm running a 5.5" rockstomper on mine and it looks to be bigger than a 33" 1.1 tire.

well I've been running Hammers (not the best tread pattern)
I think the rock lox or the flat irons look best
use stiff foams (like stock panther foams)
Rich just put them in his flat irons and they work great.
I popped a bead on the hammers and ran my comp tires
... proline chisels they looked huge but worked great
I'm mounting my old flat irons on some new RC4WD beadlocks
they should look and work well.

I'm very pleased with my narrowed lizards and stock bruiser shocks. It goes as good as, if not better than it's 1:1 equivalent. "thumbsup"
