motorman's willy's build

I thought I would try a Willy's build. I got this one for a shot at it. It is not the Hasbro one, but I think I can get it to work.

The first thing I did was extend the axial axles so there was room for the front shocks and so the tires could turn. I spent about 6 hours doing this and used RCP parts and just made the axle longer by cutting it in half and using a coupler and set screws to hold it together. I made an axle truss and thats as far as I got.
I did find a way to use the original wheel cover as a beadlock ring.
What do you willy's builder's think?

....great idea as a beadlock
"thumbsup"
I'm in the process of a total rebuild
just too many hard hours on the drivetrain
toasted my rear pinion bearing today
tranny sounds really loud
I'll post up the damage in the rebuild.....

frame

Heres is the start of the frame. The front is good but the rear needs to be cut and notched up into the body so the rear axle has some more room.

Looking very good so far. I really dig the frame. Can't wait to see it finished.

i own this willy now for quit some time, nearly 1,5 year and never in my whole life have i had a truck that could take this much abuse, axles still run smooth and after 25+ runs i decided to rip it apart and rebuild the axles and tranny, to my surprise the only thing i needed to replace was 1 axle stub and 2 bearings.

the frame is sturdy and whell built, and everything is just 1 piece like on a real car, it outperforms every scaler here on the club and the guy's here are a little bit angry when i bring it to compete in the 2.2 class:lmao:
