Project : Mercedes 4450

Hi,
Started a few months ago with this project. I had this idea since some time and finally I started to build it. At this moment I am testing with first engine/gear set up. I still don't know if am going to use a 3 speed gear box. I don't want a fast truck. I want it to be good in off road.

chassis is from rc-laserparts
axle : TLT
shocks : tamiya terra crusher (they need a softer spring)
supension : JunFac
Gear : RC4WD
Transfer : RC4WD
truckcabine : WEDICO
lenght chassis 620 mm

Hi,
I am using
1. 2 drive shafts of my old Tamiya Bruiser
2. 1 drive shafts of my sons Tamiya Toyota Hilux
3. 1 RC4WD
4. 1 drive shaft Tamiya CR01 (blue color) I bought on ebay

But I am looking for the old Tamiya Bruiser ones on ebay.
I can shorten the axle and these punishers allow a lot of flex !

Looks very cool-- I want to build a multi axel rig "some day" eventually. Keep up the good work.

Hello,
Some new updates.
I moved my axles. They are to close to put 2.2 wheels and tires.

I got my new soft suspension : gold ones are much softer than the blue ones.

I found a RC4WD V2 HD transmission. So I can put 2 motors to one transmission. This will give anough power for this truck.

Meanwhile I started to put the cabine from Wedico onto the chassis.
It fits, but I nead to make some changes.

Very nice truck, you have to lower the cabin for sure to have a more scale look.... but congratulations it is a very nice project.

Hello,
I have been so busy for the last couple of weeks.

I had to wait a long time for all other parts I orderd, due to the period it was not allowed for plains to fly over Europe (vulcano ash...)

Anyway, I made a lot of progress.

Mounted the servo's onto front axle.

Got 2 crawler motors into the new gearbox.

Had to replace the transfer gearbox.

Due to this replacement, I had to reposition two axles..

ESC is tested

First test run was OK. :ror:

I'll try to put some pics in the next couple of days.
Thx
Mike

Oke,
Some updates :

I used parts of my old Wedico truck.

Fitted chassis of this truck between my new chassis. This way I can use it to fit cabine.. on it, secondly it gives stability.

You see the V2 Twin engine transmission from RC4WD with two Tamiya Crawler motors. Why the Tamiya ? They give enough Nmm and there RPM is higher than most other Crawler motors.

http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5040110.jpg

Next, is Killer Transfer Transmission from RC4WD.
At first it was mounted horizontal.
But due to my V2 transmission to have enough power I had to replace it vertical. Problem was how to mount it ?
I used delrin, cutted out two blocks and made them to fit/follow shape of Killer transfer transmission.

http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5070125.jpg

Placed the cabine, so I can flip it open.
Placed the air intake filters aswell as the exaust/cooler system.
These all came from my Wedico truck.

http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5070130.jpg

Finally I started with the rear side.
I still haven't decided what I am going to put on it.
Same with tyres and rims...
Also I am still looking for a softer spring. (71 mm long and diameter 14 mm)

Anyway, I made two long U profiles with an alu plate on. About 50 cm long.

Next step will be new tires and finishing body.

DrunkDriver 06-13-2010 09:32 AM

That is such a NICE cab! I think it would look much better if you lowered it some so there isn't 3 inches between the top of the tire and the wheel well.

Bigger tires would help, but you just NEED to lower that body down some! Shorter shocks, while limiting your flex, would also lower that baby down. I know I wouldn't want to cut into a such nice($$) cab.

I'm sure its a blast to drive anyways! I am working on my own 8x8 at the moment.

Hello,
finally my wheels and tyres came in
well it's correct what the guys from RC4WD say : it takes some time to fix these Hummer wheels...took my each time about 30 minutes but the result is great
