New Willys build...need some help/info
 

I just won a Hasbro jeep off Ebay for the body, and I'm looking ot build a rig somewhat scale to my real 1:1. I run full width axles Chevy 1 tons on my 1:1, so what axles do you guys think would make it wide enough. I'm thinking twin force, xtm, or some kind of axle like that. I have a couple of spare Bruiser axles, but i'm thinking they will also be a lil small. I would like to run rc4wds 60's, but i dunno if it will be wide enough. I am also thinking about trying to run the scale bfg crawler 40s, if possible. This is my first crawler build, so I could really use some insight. I've searched all over this site, and all I can find are builds that somewhat keep the tires under the fenders, and seem to be running 2.2's, and from what I understand these scale out to around 33" or so. My 1:1 is running 35s, but hopefully will soon be on 39" Krawlers. Thats why I'm wanting to build my 1/6 willys with the Rock Crusher 40s.

youve picked a tricky body to work with. but i think a pair of wheelie king axles and some very wide offset wheels should put you about where you wanna be width wise. or possibly some wideners and some narrow to regular offset wheels.

the 4.0 size tires would start putting you into the scale 50" area. there are some tire pros around here that may be willing to take a set of 2.2's and make them into a taller size for you.

Ive tried wheely king axels under it. They should stick out were you want. I used axial ones to keep it stock looking. I bought a second hand set of them to try under my Willys but they don't look any wider than the axial axles, if anything they look a tad narrower. :cry:

The second pic is my rig and those axles are CR-01 axles wich are wider than axials."thumbsup"They fit the rig pretty well and I just happened to have them kicking around.I even put wideners on them later in the build.8)

All of ya'lls jeeps look sweet! I'm sure that I will prolly have to use wideners to get the rig looking how I want. I think they look really cool with the tires inside the fender just a bit, but I really want to build mine looking like my real one. My tires completely stick out of the fender wells...They are JUST outside of the fender wells looking at it straight on.....as in the inside of the tire is barely outside of the body line. Is anyone running their rig that wide? I'm not sure yet how wide the actual body is on the jeep, but hopefully I can figure out what axles to buy that will let me accomplish my goal. I want to be able to buid it as a shafty rig, but the only wider axles I have been able to find are the RC4wd super bully axles.

Hey wildwilly 4x4, I'm building a flatty similar to the one your describing, it has narrowed mad force axles and 2.2 RokLox. I was following your build on Pirate4x4 and have it saved for some insipration on my 1:1 2A Build im starting this summer"thumbsup"

That looks like it would be about the perfect width for mine! Hopefully those axles are stout enough to run the crusher 40s I want. Where's the best place to buy some used/new mad force axles? I have looked on ebay, but havent found anything so far.

That looks pretty good. If I decide to tone it down a notch on the tires, I will prolly run some of those WK axles, if I can find some.

Don't discount the Axial axles just yet. That's what I'll run under mine when finished. They're plenty wide and you can run a little offset if they're not as wide as you'd like. Moreover, they're plentiful and cost effective - pretty tough, too, as I understand it.

1:6 scale equates to the following 1:1 heights on 2.2 tires:

Crazy Crawler - 5.25=31.5
Mud Slinger - 4.88=29.28
Outcroppers - 5.31=31.86
Rocklox - 5.35=32.1
Rock Crusher - 5.5=33
Spooky Cralwer - 5.15=30.9

RC4WD D-60 axles are about 5mm skinnier than Axial axles on each side. You can get some wideners, but I think it will look kind of funny if you go real wide. Best bet is to go with WK axles and get a slightly wider hex if you need more offset.

Someone on here was just selling a brand new set of twin-mad force axles a day ago. May want to find out who and see if he'll sell them to you.

Froader, which wideners did you go with of the Junfac site? I can find 14mm wideners, but no 13mm ones. Also, none of the Axial trucks are listed as being compatible with the Junfac wideners, but I assume as long as I am going from 14mm to 14mm hexes, I should be fine.

Yeah, since I multi-tab browse, after I hit submit I saw the only 13mm length wideners available, and made the connection. Sad part is, this is not the first time I figured out something just after I asked about it. Go figure.

I'm definitely guilty of that. :)
