Project Willys MB LS Clone

HI Guys,

I`m Sebastian Varas from Chile.
First thing to tell is that I`m way behind the new RC trends. My last crawler was a Clod wich I guess now is good for a museum.
Well the thing is that I NEED to build a clone of my 1:1 JEEP. It`s a 1942 Willys MB.
So I just purchased a GI Joe MB at ebay.
Question is....can I reuse the parts of my old Clod or is better to go with axial axles, R2 tranny etc....??
Any info that can point me in the right direction will be appreciated.

I cant say much about the clod axles ,,But they are motor on axle ,and might not work very well,,The Axial ax10 scorpion is what I used to build mine , The tranny fits under the hood ,,great,,,The axles fit fine under the Willy's ,but you will need to use wheel widener's ,The rcwd disruptor transfer case ,,There is a lot of posts on the build up of The GI JOE Willy's jeep ,with the parts and part number's ,,Some of the guy's use other axles ,and tranny's too look at all the threads ,there is some great builds for the GI JOE Willy's jeep ..Hope this helps,,post some pics of your build ,,KMS

Thanks for your response...yeah, reading more it seems that I need to go with axial axles, ax10 tranny, disruptor T case.
I will post pics of my 1/6 build...for now.a pic of my 1:1 "thumbsup"

Glad to see you on here Sebastian. I've been following your jeep build on pirate for years. You have a sweet MB! You might consider HPI Wheely King or Crawler King axles. That way you wouldn't have to add wideners to get the same stance your 1:1 has."thumbsup"

Matias del Rio 06-20-2011 01:27 PM

yeah! Wheely King Axles a lot wider than the Axial Axles. The only thing you have to take care is the output shaft of the tranmy because maybe if you use an axial trany and WK axles you may have to make dual output driveshaft, but thatīs really no big issue. anything else will fit with no problem at all.

The sticky build of the G.I.Joe is here
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showt...Willy%27s+jeep

I think the only thing you need to know is what tire/rims will you be using to set the suspension. Will you use classic 4 link FF/RR or maybe coils? Springs?. Here in chile thereīs a little 3D printing Shop called www.impresion3d.cl. So if you need special pieces, they can be "printed" in ABS (black plastic), that is strong enough for a 1:10 rig.
I have a few designs in 3D, mostly potential bodies for mi SCX, but if you need any help, let me know "thumbsup"

That's awesome and very similar to what I want my Willys to look like! Do you have a link to your build thread on pirate? I'd like to check it out. 8)

Use the axial transmission (upgrade the alum output to steel)
the rc4wd disruptor transfercase
wheely king or axial axles (axial will need wideners)
and you will be good to go for a long time.

The Axial Wraith AR60 axles will be perfect under your 1/6th "thumbsup"

calikingcrawler 07-28-2011 12:29 PM

You are right, they are too wide for some builds. However I love the stance of svaras 1:1 and the AR60's will give him the offset pumpkin in the front too "thumbsup"

Although after going through his build I noticed he switched to a centered diff on the rear...

Either way I couldn't help lay a tub over my Wraith and snap some pics

Well finally we started today.
Still waiting Santa to bring the Rok Loxs and Beadlock Wheels.
I will use my old clod links and we start playing with the shocks from the same clod.
Axles are T Rex 60.

Sebastians MB was my laptop wallpaper the whole time I was building Ol' Blue. Definitely an inspirational machine...
