BMT's enormous Willy I have been sitting on it for over a year, and boy does it hurt... so I decided to get off my butt and do something about it. Most 1/6th Jeeps seem to be built in military garb or near stock civilian. I wanted to do something a little more mad but not unrealistic. So, basic ingredients are: 1st gen Hasbro G.I.Joe M38 A Scale Shop M38 chassis by STANG KILLA SS "thumbsup" Mucho thanko R1 portal axles Some no name whoflungdung 3.2" maxx size rims with 100% offset and 12mm hexes HPI Dirt Claw Savage tyres (which will be swapped out for Imex J Dawgs for looks) http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9245106.jpg First step will be to get the chassis and suspension set right for the body... (of course). Updates to come shortly. |
Front end is on. Now to find links that are right for the rear. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9265110.jpg I have also worked out that even on something this large, a Highlift gearbox still doesn't fit properly  |
cant wait to see it come together |
It's getting closer ;-) At the end of the evening I have the rear end dummied up (more discrete upper links will happen) all ready to test fit the body after I haug out the bottom of the engine bay. I've added 1/2" either end to the wheelbase to accommodate taller tires. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9265111.jpg |
Cool, man. Damn, how many projects you got going? |
Too _______ many :lmao: |
I've roughed out the areas that needed removal and test fit the body. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9275117.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9275119.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9275116.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9275114.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/P9275112.jpg |
Re: BMT's enormous Willy Well, it might seem like I had forgotten about this, but no, I've been playing with my Willy in private  I have found the wheel/tyre combo that I am mostly happy with, particularly the size. Funny thing is, that they have been sitting here all the time. I used Slash to 17mm hex adaptors to fit deep dish RPM Revolver 3.2"s and Badlands to the Junfac axles. I probably will update them with chromed versions or at least more scale tyres eventually. HPI do some aggressive scale treads for the Savage, or Imex J Dawgs might be the go. Also, I fitted the gearbox from my Creeper, seems to be just right. I made the steering up using a modified Traxxas bell crank and fitted the servo up in the engine bay. I have found a driver too, she suits the non military vibe I was going for... but, she's going to take some work. The listing said "fully posable"... this might be correct if that means jointed elbows  Out with the dremel and putty again.... http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/DSCF7911.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/DSCF7910.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/DSCF7912.jpg |
