| 1/6 Willys + SCX 10 Chassis = I think I just made it to easy?
Pictures say a thousand words, so long story short: Wheelbase is right on! The front is a PERFECT fit between the plastic frame mount section. Remove the button head screws and it is a wonderfuly snug fit! There is a little dremmel work to be done at the unseen fire wall area to let the frame slide all the way down, but this is a metal frame, not a plastic frame! The back is exactly the same width as the area between the seat mount openings! Still need the transfer case mounted to the frame and the trans mounted under the hood, but this is a STOCK SCX 10 frame!! There has to be a major flaw to this plan somewhere, it's way to easy so far. |

looks good you will need to get wideners but it should work ...may lose some breakover abilities |

I don't think so... going to use Scorpion wheels, quite a bit of off set, and I don't think break over will be to bad. Now that the front end of the frame is seated farther in to the body it's looking really good. Edit: OK, wheels and tires on, may need wideners. Last edited by LumTheMad; 10-29-2011 at 09:50 AM.

Damn, brand-spankin' new axle cases. Quote:
Do you not have the Hasbro chassis? After you fill the center of the frame rails with 1/4"x1/2" aluminum stock they work remarkably well for RC conversion. And the body screws right to it w/ 8 screws, rock-solid. Actually, just ignore me - PROPS for going about it a different way I don't see why it won't work. You still need to come up w/ shock mount points, but that is no different than any other Hasbro build, you'll figure it out. At the very least. (I don't like wideners because thats all they do is widen - the point where the knuckles pivot in the C's is unchanged) I stretched a pair of Axial axles by 1" for my build. Lookin' good so far, keep at it! Last edited by Big Mike; 10-31-2011 at 07:46 AM.

It's basically done. Camera is dead. I mentioned to the wife it would be a great idea for xmas, now I stuck myself for waiting until xmas for a camera. Got a cage from RCP Crawlers, expensive, and crazy expensive shipping, $60!! Holy $h!t ! Anyhow, since I have zero skillz with welding and tube bending that's what I get I guess. The welds on it looked like crap so I went over the worst of them with QuickSteel epoxy clay, sets quick and files/sands really well. Happy with everything except the steering srevo. I kept it mounted to the top of the front axle. Not much room with suspension flex but works well anyway. Used axial servo mounts as body mounts to the unused holes in the axial frame, works great! Also used servo mounts to mount the rear bumper. Pictures, late December??? P.S.- I have an uncut Willys frame if someone needs one. $20 - includes shipping, USA only. Send a PM. Biggin69 started making longer beef toobs when KCJones stopped. They have been used on these builds. He has 1 set left and he said he was going to machine another batch when those sell. I'm not good at posting links but you can find his thread in the vendors marketplace in axles, trany's and t-cases.

The welds are solid, just looked like crap for MY scale Willys. AND, I don't need no stinkin' wheel wideners, I got PORTALS, FTW! Yeah, I need a camera, I know.

That looks AWESOME!!! When you get a chance, do you mind pulling some measurments. (length, width and height) Trying to gauge my "next" build. I have an XTM X-Factor that I do not use anymore and I want to build something bigger and electric to crawl and bash around the yard with the kids. |

Which model of GI Joe Jeep do you have? Mine is the Hasbro Jeep from the 60's, it's a bit larger I believe than this one. Your scx10 frame seems to fit it your body better than mine does. Check out my thread "New Project (for me)" further down the list, and go to post 15. My scx10 frame is all the way forward, but I'm about 1.5 in short from the rear. I'm also using wraith axles and skid. Yours looks real good, and I like your cage.

On post 13, second picture down, what rear bumper is that?, and I like how you used servo mounts to mount the chassis to the body, very clean
