AWESOME BUILD!

I like that you went for the worn finish rather than glossy.

Re: Willys Project M-38

Update - So I didn't really take many pics of building the G.I. Joe M-100 trailer, but it was simple enough. Basically I wanted to leave it as "stock" looking as I could, yet make it useable to tow behind the Jeep. I started off by reinforcing the stock frame channel where they meet at mounting point on the front with 1/4" styrene strips, then I went ahead and made up a flat 1/8" aluminum piece that runs the full length under the trailer and the pintle reciever is bolted directly to that. By doing those two things I was able to keep it bone stock looking, yet its now strong enough to be towed without worry of breakage. I also went ahead and chopped off the stock fake plastic leaf spring suspension setup, in favor of making the real deal. Here it is with fresh paint...

And now faded, scratched and dulled out like the Willys, assembled and ready for action. "thumbsup"

My driver figure also showed up in the mail over the week so in he went, as well as I also added a few other finishing scale touches and details. Today I took it to its first scaler GTG some of us local guys have at one of the more popular crawler spots here in Massachusetts, to give it a real "shakedown" run thru some serious rocks. Heres some action pics- Enjoy !

It was amazing how well the trailer hung in there behind the jeep, it didn't get hung up at all on anything, and pivoted and twisted thru ALL of the real tight spots I purposely drove thru. As fun as it was wheelin' with trailer in tow, I wanted to see how well the Willys would do on its own, so here goes nothing..! ;-)

I came up over a hill and there was a Wraith over on his lid, so it was time to test out the new "Warn" winch as well.. :ror:

I think there was some video footage shot, so if the owner posts it up, I will include a link on here to watch it as well "thumbsup"

Heres a few more - I found a nice deep "V" crack in the rocks to try and climb up.

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...r/HPIM5550.jpg

It got pretty steep and tricky towards the top but slow and steady throttle control and the Jeep made it up NO problem. :)

They say its the first one that always stings the most..:lmao:

We just started packing up getting ready to head out when I decided to try this one area "just one more time" that had been giving people a problem all day. I thought I made it out just fine but the Willys had other ideas and decided to flop on over.. :ror: ( guess it was a good thing I took the trailer off.. :lmao:)

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...r/HPIM5554.jpg

Its got a few new scrapes and battle scars now, but all in all a great day of wheelin'. I couldn't be happier with the way the jeep performed. It was basically point it and pull the trigger, and this thing just plain crawls.

I've still got a few more things I'd like to add before I can officially call this one "done", but for now its time to drive this thing and really get it broken in right..! I will post more progress pics as they happen. "thumbsup"

Too cool, I used to have a 1947 CJ-2a that looked real similar to this, down to the pinkish orange paint.

Good job! "thumbsup"

Thanks Man - You should build one of your own, they're pretty easy to get up and going and are a BLAST once completed plus with the VAST amount of knowledge and great people on this site to help you out, all it really takes is for you to do a little homework on here, read thru alot of these Willys builds and start gathering parts - thats pretty much what I did. "thumbsup"

I have seen a bunch of used 1/6 Willys bodys that have sold for cheap on eBay lately. I keep missing on placing a bid, in order to get a spare body for future needs.

Look was rolled up into our property today ! I'm sure the driver (now named "Rocky Mountain Rick" by our kids) was quite cold when he got into the snowstorm that we got last night and today. Here are some action shots as Rick pulled up to the house.

Coming into the final stretch - cresting a hill.

I think I can see through the driving snow.

Gotta get around the yucca plant...

Maybe someday I'll be able to pull the full size trailer.

I really need to re-do my body and make up a later model grill and windshield like this. It looks 1000% better than "stock".

I've also twisted my homemade axle shafts and broke the left rear shaft, so it's time for the axle rebuild.

Have fun with her RWS!! "thumbsup"

So I head out to the shop today to snap some pics and there's tires and stuff from the counter scattered all over the floor. The 21 Century Jeep that was sitting in the dusty corner is out on the workbench and it's taken apart. I figure my son had decided to join in with Dad and is doing the Jeep by himself as he didn't ask me for help ! Guess I'll let him do his thing and build it !

Hi guys -- sorry to bring this old thread back, but does anyone know what happened to this Jeep and who has it now? Just wondering...

What an amazing build!

Thanks,
Steve
