| Another IFS Raptor
I know these things are all over the place, but here's my take on it. Specs: 650 Kershaw motor @11.1v, ESC TBD 2 Speed Semi Transmission Modified Axial tranny/T-case with DNA dig flipped for 2/4WD WK rear axle Hybrid Redcat/HPI front IFS Scalped the top of the tranny so I can get in there and change pinions easier. Will bolt it back on when running. Chassis Design...figuring out where to put everything. Frame rails cut per design After some trimming and fine tuning... More to come. |

Bent up and hacked out a front skid. Front suspension is bolted on. However, it's very much sitting "tall in the saddle." Issue is the front suspension does not have a lot of downtravel as is. That's about the total dropout I want from the suspension in the front as it is sitting, but the arms won't get me there. That's as far up as I can tuck it as is. Again, looked fine on paper, but once assembled - not so much. Note the angle on the arms....it's almost parallel. No more downtravel, but it has gobs up uptravel....in fact, the tires rub the upper wheelwells. Hmm..There's more travel in there somewhere. So, next step is to get some more downtravel out of the front suspension, then I'll re-bend the plate a bit to tuck it up higher. Looking to go up at least an inch. I have a few HPI MT parts which should be a direct swap with the redcat suspension. Or I've fitted Wild dagger arms on there too. I figure I get a ton of downtravel with my Ram's HPI set-up, so it's here somewhere I just have to find it. I'll tinker around and see what I can come up with. |

last pics shows or at least from what i can figure, that plate that goes underneath the ifs is restricting the downward movement, maybe cut some relief section/notches to allow it to swing downwards

It does a little (need to trim/bevel it a bit..Easier to trim it later than cut it too narrow to begin with) but it's the suspension parts themselves that ultimately limit the travel. The C-hub hits the suspension arm and there's not a lot of room to trim. This set-up works pretty good, probably just graft this one on if the width works out. Or switch to HPI MT parts, whichever works. |

New suspension set-up...much improved! Can tuck the entire assembly up under the truck much better now. Still tweaking, but getting pretty close to bolting it on. Overall stance and close to where I want the ride height to be. Will sit a bit lower in the front when all is said and done. |

The track width looks really good, I think it's going to turn out great.

No leafs, going 4 link. Going to have to cut the bed i think to stand up the shocks - just not a lot of room under there. THanks BigSki! It's coming along! |

Well, not a major update, but update nonetheless. Front clip is mounted. Not quite what I had planned, but it's straight, solid and level. Will tie in the top of the diff to the side chassis plates as well. Also started on the t-case and tranny mounts. Last edited by OSRC; 08-07-2012 at 05:35 AM. |

Rear suspension is mocked up. Went with laydown shocks for now. Will have to re-drill some holes for the swaybar and move it further back. Feels good on the bench, I'm sure it will need some tuning later but happy with the travel and motion. Swaybar might be a bit stiff, we'll see once the full weight of the rig is on it. Tranny mounted..seems a bit high, and it might be. It sits over the front driveshaft so once I get that in and mounted (on order) I may be able to move it down a bit. Started mocking up the front shocks too. Very much subject to change Need to do a servo bed in front, radio tray in back, front shock and mody mounts and all the aluminum work will be done. Then I can strip it down, do some finish work (trimming and countersinking, etc) on the parts and get it painted. |

Sure are. Had one years ago, ran it into the ground (wasn't hard) Kept a few of the parts though - I never throw anything out -never know when they will come in handy.

Haven't forgotten about this bad boy...Slowly chipping away at it. Mailman brought some parts: Switched over to the Axial dig, added some RR gears, fabbed up some driveshafts (any bets on how long that rear wraith shaft will last?? ) and already replaced the rear axle with the HD set. I'll get the front later when I tear it back down. 1 thing I did was to grind down the dig unit so it would not lock the front tires. Might be cool to lock the front and do a "burnout" but a servo glitch at speed that locks the front wheels would be no good. Now it's just straight 2/4 wheel. |

Progress is good! Slow going as I keep getting sidetracked with rally stuff lately, but coming along. Couple little updates: Driveline is assembled, t-case built and mounted, transmission was moved down 10mm now that I knew how much clearance I had (and while it was out did some finish work on the mounts), radio/battery plate fabbed up, front servo bed installed, and started working on the front shock and body mounts. Tranny: Standing on its own finally! Front shocks are way, way too soft so it's sagging quite a bit. Front shock towers will double as body mounts and will get trimmed up. Getting very close to tearing it all back down and doing the finish work to the chassis and giving it a coat of paint. Will be opening it up quite a bit to lighten it up. it looks like a big block of aluminum at the moment. Just ordered some more screws too - don't have enough to bolt anything else together. |

This truck looks like it's gonna be really fun. Excellent use of recycled parts. Looks like there's lots of places where you could lose some weight too. I saw a real Raptor on the road for the first time the other day - they are SICK units all right. Very nice truck... |

There's an orange 1:1 round here with a full bed cage, offroad lights upper and lower, and a spare mounted in the back - sick truck. May replicate it to a point, not sure yet. Haven't even given any thought to the body really yet.
