Ok the madness started today . I removed the top (going going gone) . The windsheild frame gone . I also removed the gas tank from the frame . It didn't look real enough . Plus no way to put sliders on with it there . I have started filling the body holes with styrene . There is over 35 holes to be filled . This is to much like work . I will be using the stock frame . It has some alum plate added to the frame for the links to be mounted to . T-case pic of the frame repair after removing the gas tank . Last edited by Badd; 09-13-2012 at 08:19 AM. |

Well I got the first stage of sanding done . I also removed the marker and tail lights . I want to put working tail lights on it later on . I sprayed the first of many light coats of primer this morning . I will sand again tonite also start filling any low spots in the patches . I don't really have time to make custom bumpers right now . So they will have to wait . What I have done is cut and moved the stock one back almost 3/4" . I also narrowed it up a lot . I filled the inside with 5 min. epoxy . The rear I just cut a piece of 025 gauge Alum to skin the stock rear bumper . I also filled it with 5 min. epoxy . They should hold up for now . I also got some rework done the fire wall . You will see a servo wire in the pics . It is a micro servo to work the steering wheel from RCP . |

Lookin' like a good start! (and lookin' like another body that'll make me feel like I rushed through mine!) The "stock" front bumper actually works out well when stuffed with either aluminum or epoxy (or both) Strong and very detailed... |

Not really man I'm not going for a show room look . I want it to look like a 70 plus year old Jeep . That has had some love but not to much . For now my plans for paint is . Black tub I'm thinking a semi gloss (maybe look like primer/sealer) . Primer grey fenders with the Army hood and grill . I just want it to look like someone has done work on the tub/fenders and is near paint stage . | |

Off to a great start! The 'AXR-10' axles are a great choice, I made the first prototype 'toobs' for the conversion, my orange Jeep is still running the original ones I made for dimensioning. It's running strong to this day, I haven't opened the cases for 2 years. With another Willys being built for this event, and a bit of prodding from ZoSo, I might have to try and make it just to run w/ some other Jeeps. I'll have to see how the finances hold up, I just got laid off today. |

^^^ they look really good... hot racing 1:10 aluminum diamond plate looks great too... it actually looks better and more scale to 1:6 than 1:10.

Andy that is just great... I have 4 jeeps 2 dragon's and 2 GI joe ones. And the one I really getting fired up about is my dodge WC 57 command car. And I just found a white M3 scout car. The biggest problem I have found on doing one of these large scale rigs is axles Not wide enough. Believe it or not but the wraith axles are still too narrow for my dodge. This I will be watching. Well some of my parts where in the mail today . I mocked up the rear axle so I could check the width . I use some used HR alum lockouts . Some Wheey King RC4WD straight axles . I also use some small bullet looking axle retainers . I'm not sure who makes them they where in a set of Axles I bought . I used Avid bearings thru out . I ended up going with stock ring and pinion . But I did use a stage 3 locker . here is a few pics . and 1 to show the width Last edited by Badd; 09-13-2012 at 08:18 AM. |

I like the look of those wheels! Offset seems to be a big factor when using the AXR-10 axles, too little and the tires hit the shocks and you have no turning radius, too much and the tires stick way outside of the body and just looks goofy. I like the use of the stage 3 lockers. I have almost 3 years on the set that I have in the orange Jeep. I checked the slots last year w/ a pin gauge, there was no measurable wear when compared to a new set that I have stashed away. It would be nice if someone remade these, the use of ChroMo was a perfect choice. Any ideas on a cage design yet? Last edited by BigSki; 08-12-2012 at 10:10 AM. |

I sprayed a coat of prime yesterday . So today I sanded it down . The tub/cowl is getting real close . I might just spray the black (sealer look) on the tub . I don't want a 70 plus year old bodied trail rig to be perfect . The hood and grill will be stock Army look . The front fenders I'm not sure if I will primer grey or leave the sanded out look on them . Here isa few pics to hold everyone over . |
