1/4 or 5th scale scale rock crawler?

oki have been thinking about a 1/4 scale or 5th scale rock crawler. now im talking about a rock crawler about the size of the hpi baja or losi 5ive trucks. a crawler that used the shocks from either of these alond with the bodies. it would be massive and its a dreami have been kicking around for some time. i figure the losior hpibead lock wheels would work great. but where my dream runs into a snag is the axles and drive train.i think that the hpi baja tranny could be used with a modded motor plate fixed to it with it in the center of the truck? or i figure if its a ladder frame designe to keep the scale experience the the motor would be up front witha gearbox in the middle. i figure an rc4wd gear box would handle it but im still missing the tranny??

so what do people think ideas? maybe i could start amassing parts to try to do this ?? but it would be awesome. then the electronics are an issue. i figure a possible candident for motor would be a drill motor?

i need ideas and possible tips or links to products.

now the reason i pick the losiand hpiis because i have both of these large scale trucks along with a couple crawlers.

im thinking maybe a disruptor style set-up.
Disruptor Ultra Compact Planetary Transmission (Limited Edition Red)

i think a setup like this would be perfect for a GIANT 1/4 scalethe size of the hpibaja or losi 5ive.

note: this is a pic i found on rc4wd it is for the disruptor transfer case i am only using it for reference. this is not my pic!

THATS! what im talking about. but OUCH! your correct loudone the price is outrageous. but for something that big made of aluminum with those scale looks i understand the price.

sad thing is im like hummmm?? what could i seelto afford a set of these hahahaha.

no rely im thinking.

If you thought 10th scale custom buids were expensive you have no Idea what your in for with large scale and add on the engineering challenges to boot, if you just want to throw a large rig together you can get away with alot less but to perfect a custom one off build plan on manufacturing a great deal of the parts yourself.

I'm in 1500 so far and only half way done

Re: 1/4 or 5th scale scale rock crawler?

thats what i figured deisel-tech. until i saw those rc4wd axlesbut your correct i would have to find someone willing to machine alot of the parts although i do know several people that could handle the job but the money scares me alot.
but im just shooting ideas and seeing if onyone has tried it or done it and if so i would like to see how they did it.

I can't say I've ever seen a gas crawler. What gear ratio will it have?

TnMan 02-06-2013 08:28 PM

You have a build thread on that gas crawler? Would love to know more...
