that looks real nice Steve, how are you planning on mounting it? I've seen some with your style Jeep, make mounting plates at the feet and screw to the body. On mine, I brazed some 10-32 all-thread into the 4 corner tubes, drilled through the body, and secured with washers and nylocks, and the two middle tubes, I glued 1/8 rods into some holes in the body to use as guides. The tubes just slide over the middle studs.

I fill the bottom of the tubes on my rollbars with tin, then drill/tap for a clean looking mount.

So just drill the body and bolt on, clean easy and strong mount

That'll work, just make sure you use washers on the underside with the screws so it doesn't pull through the plastic on a hard hit.

All i have is from the 1st part of the build. The blue end link rotates on a bushing inside the square block.

When i finish my trailer and do another i will definitely post the pics and pics of it in action.
This is VERY similar to the trailer mount I made for my 1/10 scaler build.
It's made from a broken XR uni that I repaired and it can swivel 1000*.

That's pretty good, considering there's only 360* in a circle, lol

I started reinforcing the bottom of the trailer by adding additional styrene between the frame rails. Still working on bending loops into the rake tines.

Do you just bend the tines with pliers? Or do you have to heat them first?

Tried the "Let's see what happens first" trick by putting the tine in a vise, and grasping one end with a pair of needlnose. Snapped as soon as I tried to bend it.

Round 2: Placed in the vise vertically, so about 2" sticking up above the vise. I used my mapp gas torch for the heat. Through trial and error*, I found that if I only heat the metal so it barely has a red tinge to it, I can bend it, and when it cools, it still retains its temper.

* while heating the metal to cherry red makes it bend easier, once it cools, even if you try to re-temper it by dipping immediately in water, the metal stays flimsy. I had to make another spring, that's why there are 3 tines missing from the rake head.

It took about 15 minutes for each loop. I wanted to go slow, and not use too much heat at one time. I used a pair of needlenose pliers for the initial bending, A piece of 1/4 brakeline to use as a template for the size of the loop, and a pair of regular pliers to fine tune the loop after the bend and before the metal cooled. I also had a small cup of water to dip the tine in when I was satisfied with the loop.

I'll use a piece of small rubber tubing, like fish tank hose, for the bushings in the loops.

Still working on an axle, u-bolts & plates, and shackles, although, I may look into RC4WD shackles.

Very Nice work and out of the box usage on the springs Mike. Looking forward to more pics and info.

home brew springs look nice

are you going to use some sort of eye bushing - sleeve
that the bolt will go thru ?

what's the ID of the spring ends ?

Yes, I'll use a rubber tubing, like from an aquarium, for the bushings, and the I.D. is 1/4"

Thanks for the comments guys!

I took a couple extra days off of work this weekend, thurs & fri, figured I'd get this trailer moving along, but nope. Wife wanted me to do some work on the outdoor railroad, so she can continue building the town. So the part along the house had to be moved out since we took the greenhouse down earlier this year, and I added approximately 104 sq ft to the benchwork, and reinforced some of the existing benchwork, as it had been sagging a bit. Nice and cool temps, 50-60, made it easier to work without sweating. I have a couple more 2 x 4's to add to the underside of the mountain tomorrow morning, and then I can get back to work on the Jeep trailer.

I completely forgot about your outdoor railroad. Post up a few pics when you get a chance!

I'll get some current pics up, after I get the track laid back down. The wife wants to put out some of her finished buildings to see how it's all going to fit with the extra benchwork.
