| warriorsimi's willies jeep "the general"
Finally got started on my jeep,I have owned about 8 different bodies but never had the right parts or just no motivation .finally yesterday I decided I was not going to stop till I had something built at least for mock up.i tried the stock chassis and also the 1/2 inch square finally decided to use the scx10 chassis rc4wd transfer case and the gelante 2 tranny.[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Depends on how much you think the Jerp will spend with the tires facing towards the sky! Mine is top heavy, so the cage is always being used.

Mine is pretty well balanced, but I put a cage on anyways. Also, depends on what you're looking to build, more of a stock military jeep, or is the General retired, heading out to the remote fishing hole.

If I could of used the stock wheels and tires I would leave it alone I drove it in my shop and it does really good so far I just hope that with the cage it don't hinder it too much.

| Re: warriorsimi's willies jeep "the general" Just my opinion, but if you make a full cage, do it out of tubing to save on weight. My cage is made from 5/16" diameter tubing, the next one will be 3/8" just for a bit more strength.

Liking the way you built the drivetrain. Jeep looks good on it. Yep, I use Stockcarsteel.com's DOM for all my work. The softer/cheaper 1020 DOM steel has been holding up well. |

I am going to build it out of 1/4 inch brake line anything bigger I think is too big. How can I upload a video? Tried photobucket and it just says it's loading but won't.i got it running last night and wanted to show the driver steering and turning his head. |

I used 1/4" brakeline, and by the time I finished, if it weighs a pound, I'd be surprised. It's very strong once I put the crossbraces on it, not top heavy at all. Unfortunately, I used the coated brake line, and now that I know better, my recommendation to you would be find un-coated brakeline, it'll save on a lot of grinding that you need for a clean braze. Also remember to grind a fishmouth in perpendicular joints, makes them stronger.

Make a rollgage. You can always unbolt & remove it for stripped-down look. Yes, try to make it from tubing. My first 1/6 cage was 1/4" solid rod and heavy. Version 2 was 1/4" stainless tubing and half the weight. |
