Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler Got a friend that's a landscaper?, I have a buddy that is, and when I need more rock or debris for my crawl pile, I let him know, and when he gets a job and has leftover rock or construction debris, he drops it off. |
Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler No lanscaper buddies, ive exhausted my resources looking for rocks. I cant find any place to crawl around me. Im pretty sure ill be buying at least a few tons of rocks this summer and building a crawler course in my back yard. Its 35 miles to my closet crawl spot so if i can save in gas it may be worth it. |
Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler I don't remember which thread it was, might search for "back yard rock courses", or something like that, some one had mentioned to check Craigslist, because people put up adds to remove rocks from their property at no charge. The other option you could try is go to a construction site where they are breaking and leveling the ground. They have usually turned up the ground enough to expose decent sized rocks. When I had my pick-up, I'd go on the weekends, usually on a Sunday, when no one is around to pick through the site. I found enough 8-10 inch rocks to make a nice rock garden for my wife. |
Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler im going to need some bigger rocks. this crawler crawls right up my 25" dog kennel and it has straight sides and 90* corners. ive already been to a place that sells them. the size i need weighs between 70 and 100 lbs per rock and cost $149 a ton with a $65 delivery fee. so for $515 i can get 3 tons and that should be a good start. i would go around looking for them but even if i find them loading them may be a problem, not to mention i would use up most of my summer. buying them is going to be my easiest way to get it done quick. |
Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler so the maxtone 1/5th crawler is a decent machine? i am thinking of getting one and leaving it stock as this would be my first crawler and i have no clue how to upgrade it. i would probably want more speed...??? |
Re: 1/5th scale (comp style) crawler This one looks heavily upgraded. I read that will be the case. I think I read some specs on it. The same servo is used in smaller scale rig. Main problem I see is the OP ran out of obstacles. |

to answer your question though "NO" this crawler has alot of drawbacks the major ones ive noticed are. 1. there isnt much aftermarket support 2. i cant find cv axle shafts any where so its dog bones for life:cry: 3. even if you could find cv shafts you would still need to fab up some C's and knuckles to make use of them because the stock ones wont do it 4. it comes with 23mm hexes and all the wheels with a 23mm hex are discontinued 5. the stock wheels crack very easy forcing you to source wheels 6. the stock gears and case are all plastic. you can get AL gears but not steel. 7. stock servo sucks 8. need i go on???
